“The forest does not shout. It simply grows, survives, and reclaims. So do we.”
— Wood Elf
The Wood Elves, known as the Eryii to their kin, are seen as a reclusive, yet simple race, quite unlike their sister species. In all reality, the Wood Elves have a storied past; their reasons for living among the land and in harmony with the wildlife around them have been passed down through oral tradition. It is said that the forests and the animals within them had once protected the Eryii from a great evil or a great disaster. It is unknown what this evil or disaster could be, or if it even exists at all, yet most swear by it and have their tale to boot. Some have forsaken the protection of the forests, however, and those who have are viewed as having been misled. The Wood Elves often value freedom, independence, and bravery, with some being utterly fearless when facing large beasts or other significant threats.

The Eryii stand out in appearance among the other Ildae, being of similar height and build to the Drow, but their skin colour is an array of different natural colours. Shades of copper colored skin are most common, though they can also be a darker shade of brown, and rarely, light green, not dissimilar to the colour of the Orcs. However, the Eryii are known to decorate, or otherwise paint their bodies to resemble the forests around them. The eyes of Wood Elves are dark colours, and uncommonly they are a bright green, with a crown of yellow around the pupil. The hair colour is varied; most human tones are found among Wood Elves, including the addition of red. As one would expect of the Ildae, they have pointed ears which point directly upwards. An odd phenomenon has manifested upon the Wood Elves; it is unknown whether it is natural or unnatural, but many have also sprouted wooden “horns” upon their heads. Most see this as a blessing from the forests, and treat it as such with decorations and stylisation, but some see it as quite the opposite, as a sickness.
There’s a peace between the Wood Elves and the natural world, honoured without fail. Animals—except those prone to aggression—do not view them as threats. Wolves pause instead of growling, and boars sniff but do not charge. This trust does not extend to unnatural creatures or apex predators starving for a kill, but in most forests, a Wood Elf can walk safely where others would tread in fear.

Many Wood Elves are proud to be what they are, but rarely put on an air of superiority or feel the need to show their worth, unlike their sister races, tending to think that it’s better to withhold judgment until necessary. There are Eryii who are more violent; however, those who hunt and wish to show that the earth is not to be disturbed are not uncommon to see, along with slaying those who disrupt the peace. With a fondness towards archery and sleek weaponry, Wood Elves prove to be able-bodied warriors, and with their ability to move through the woods, are also effective scouts and rangers.
