âStone doesnât lie. That's why we carve our truth into it.â
             â DwarfÂ
The Dwarf is a well-known race in the world of Azura. Dwarves, or KhazĂťn in their tongue, hail from different parts of the world, but the heart of Dwarvish society is coalesced into four Graatkins, dynastic groupings of Clans that form one great household, based out of grand fortress-cities known as Alclaads. They are believed to be one of the oldest races of Azura, owing to their long lifespans and keen interest in recording their shared history throughout their exceedingly long natural lives.Â
Life expectancy: 110 years
Height: 4'2"â4'10" ft. (max.) [1,27â1,47 m.]
Weight: 200â250 lbs. [91â113 kg.]
Language: DÝrogärn
They are quite similar to Humans, being closely related to each other, as they share more similar anatomy compared to other races, except for their shorter average height, as they have shorter limbs relative to torsos but larger features.
Centuries of consuming water with a great quantity of minerals, cavern flora, and other questionable subterranean fare have made the dwarven stomach gain the title of âiron gutâ. Poisons and venoms take twice as long to work on a dwarf. Some very light toxins never seem to take hold at all. This resilience isnât only chemicalâitâs cultural, with dwarves priding themselves on handling the bitter, the spoilt, and the strange.
Dwarves usually crave consistency, structure, and tradition. As mentioned earlier, their societyâs structure is hard to change, and so, Dwarves are usually slow at changing their minds or trust, requiring patience, but fiercely committed otherwise. They highly value actions more than words, making it easier to gain their respect & approval, but often struggle with guilt or rigidity when forced into moral grey areas.
The Dwarves have a complicated relationship with the shadowy world beneath Azura's firmament. Most Dwarvish scholars believe the underground to have been their place of conception, owing to rigorous study of ancient Dwarvish Scriptstones, and more simply through their nature as beings; their stocky shape, talent for stonework, and a curious knack for blind navigation all point to the potential of a subterranean otherlife. Yet, you will find only a few Dwarves living beneath stone and earth in Azura today.Â
The Unearthing of the Dwarves is a matter of great debate amongst the Graatkins. Some believe it simply to be their natural evolution; the confines of rock and stone could no longer contain the Dwarvish, and so they emerged, grander and bolder than any who trod the land before. Some believe a different story, one of a thinking poison, a grand debt unpaid, and a forced flight from their former homes.
