Janette Byron Stone
Janette Byron Stone M.Ed. is a retired teacher, counselor, and citizen of the world. A native of Sydney, Australia, she raised her family on the Canadian prairie and currently resides in the United States. Passionate about the importance of the Arts, she founded and directed award-winning choirs in Australia and Canada and has performed in numerous amateur plays and musicals as well as professional TV and film.
Fascinated by the lives of real people and the effect of actual events on history, it’s no surprise Janette finds herself most at home exploring the genres of Historical Fiction, Biography, and Literary Nonfiction. Her books have generated speaking engagements in Argentina, Australia, and Canada. Her debut book Please Write garnered a silver medal in the 2022 Military Writers Society of America awards. Her manuscript Prairie Lotus Flower is the 2022 recipient of the Florida Keys Council of the Arts grant. Other publications include Gifts from Time and Place, a collection of short stories, essays, vignettes portraying the resilience of the human spirit; the co-authored children’s book Alexis' Island: Growing up in the Tropical Paradise of Key West; and several magazine and online articles including "I’ll Always Remember."
Recent works appear in the 2023 KWWG anthology, MWSA Snapshots and Dispatches quarterly. When the whistle pigs go underground and the hummingbirds leave the northwest, Janette and her husband Tom migrate from the forest to the tropical southeast. Author affiliations include the Key West Writers Guild, the Alliance of Independent Authors, Authors Guild, and Military Writers Society of America.
