Needs assessment
Needs assessment done with different stakeholders like students, teachers, parents and community members to understand the situation of community and school and the scope of working in the context.
Design workshop
Workshop with community members, teachers, students leaders, SMC and representatives from the Government to develop understanding about school related issues, build consensus between teachers and community for school development, understanding of stakeholder perceptions towards school development.
Vision document
Preparation of a vision document for the project articulating clear objectives and plans for the next three years.

Workshop with teachers to visualise their school as a model school and to ideate around ways to make the school an enjoyable place for the child.

Hiring community champions and field officers for the project.
Early Warning System (EWS)
Implementing the EWS at the school by teachers and community champions. Identifying children that need special attention, track their progress over time and facilitate response strategies to keep them engaged in school.
Seeking partnerships
VBERC got on board for the baseline, midline and endline survey and teacher training sessions. Blaise Joseph got on board to facilitate an art-based program in the school and community.

Mapping different academic parameters to monitor progress of the intervention over time.
Bal sansad elections
For the first time, elections for the Bal Sansad were held democratically in the school through a voting process.
Teacher training workshop
Perspective building workshop with teachers to improve the understanding of learning and teaching methodology.
Enrichment activities
Last class enrichment activities implemented at the school by the community champions.
Boundary wall
Construction of the boundary wall by a local contractor after winning through an open bidding in the community. A monitoring committee put in place to oversee everyday construction.
ARC
Started the ARC at the school with 20 youth. Engaging them in classes around Life Skills, Computer and Communicative English.
Parent engagement with IVRS
IVRS system initiated to regularly keep in touch with parents and give them important information regarding school activities.
Art workshops
Blaise Joseph conducts art workshops with students, parents, teachers and the community resulting in brightly coloured paintings across the school and village.
Headmaster changes
The headmaster gets transferred and all the work done at the leadership level needs to be undone. The new headmaster is against change and opposes any idea the team suggests.
Exposure visits
Exposure visits conducted for the students, teachers and SMC to other schools in the district and the Lok Sabha in Patna.
Change projects by students
The Bal Sansad takes ownership of change projects in the school. These include planting of the kitchen garden, installation of the hand pump etc.
Community contributions
Community starts contributing to the school. Library, stage, fans were some resources that were made possible by community donations.
ARC shifts to the community
ARC sets up a dedicated space for the youth in the community including a library, a computer lab and an office.
Midline survey conducted
Measuring an improvement across attendance, learning levels and other parameters.
New SMC forms
New SMC gets selected and plays an active role in the transformation process.
Headmaster changes again
An old teacher gets promoted as the new headmaster. His enthusiasm for the program dies down when he becomes the headmaster leading to poor leadership at the school level.
Scholarships program starts
20 students, 4 boys and 16 girls are identified from the school for the scholarship program after a thorough evaluation including an academic assessment, and a check on the family background.
New building construction starts
The construction of the new building starts this time with a contractor from outside the village.
Kala Samvad
A 6 days program was conducted on Enrichment Activities for the youth, students and community members. Artwork was displayed at various places in the community at various places followed by a discussion, cultural events and movie screenings.
Language development workshop
Teachers exposed to theory and practice of language learning in children. The workshop helped build empathy towards children and understand the child from a different perspective.
Youth connects with the school
Youth connects with the school by being a part of a volunteer program to help teachers, internships. They also collect money and contribute resources like plants for the garden.
Exposure visits
Exposure visits conducted for the students, teachers to Riverside school in Ahmedabad and the SMC to other schools in the state.
Inauguration of the new building
The new building gets inaugurated by Mrs Sunita Prasad. The community shows up for the event in heavy numbers.
Shiksha Ratn Puraskar
The school gets awarded the prestigious Shiksha Ratn Puraskar for Student leadership.
