THE QUIET ARTIST
Having seen his artist father put up his work on the walls of their house, drawing is second nature to Sachin. He loved participating in Blaise’s workshops and drawing is his favourite activity.
Having been the education minister in the Bal Sansad last year, he feels the activation of the student body has been the most significant change in the school. As education minister, he also visited a school in Gopalpur and came back inspired to inculcate similar processes in his school.
THE OUTSPOKEN LEARNER
Saumya is currently the Cleanliness and Sanitation minister in the Bal Sansad and has been an active part of different activities in the school. The youngest of four daughters of a farmer, her parents encourage her to study and participate in extracurricular activities in school. Her mother is also a part of the SMC.
For her one of the biggest changes has been the installation of the library in the school. She is proud that she has been elected by the students as a member of the Bal Sansad - a previously non-existent body. She hasn’t seen the teaching style change much but assemblies have become an integral part of the day now. She often goes and teaches students in the younger classes and would like more teachers to be appointed.
THE EXCITED YOUTH
Armaan graduated from the Kalaunjar middle school earlier this year and is now in class 9 at Bagla High School. He continues to visit school often and helps around in whatever way possible. He wants to become a doctor when he grows up and has taken biology in school.
He has been attending the ARC for 3 months now and is already more confident while speaking in front of people. The Centre also helped him set a goal for his life and chalk out a plan to get there. He feels the school is better equipped with the new building and drinking water facilities. He would like to see the kitchen transform next. He recognises his role as a role model for students.
THE YOUNG TEACHER
A first year college student, Kanchan divides her time between studying for college and at the Kalaunjar middle school teaching students as part of her internship. She wants to become a teacher and is happy living a part of that dream while she’s still studying.
She visits the ARC regularly because she learns something new and gets a quiet place to do her own work. She encourages other girls in her community to visit the ARC instead of wasting time. With her unshaking voice booming on stage on the day of the inauguration, the change in her is evident.
