Every change project must begin with getting a deep understanding of the context and stakeholders. The needs assessment done by the team in 2015 helped in charting a course for the intervention at scale. It also allowed the team to get fully immersed in the context and develop relationships with different stakeholders.
People were the most valuable source of inspiration for the teams. Specific stakeholders in the system were contacted to get a sense of different opinions and capture ideas. This activity helped challenging assumptions, asking questions and exploring new ways of driving change.
With understanding the context it was also imperative to understand that the process of facilitating change is not an easy task. Community champions were hired at the village level to drive change on a daily basis. These champions were embedded in the community and became the face of the program.
Trust turns out to be a key component of driving change and seeing these champions everyday also helped build trust in the community.
