Luke 5:15-16
Praying in Solitude
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Luke 22:39-44
Jesus Prays in Private
39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Matthew 6:5-6
Praying in Solitude
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
John 1:9-13
We Are Children of God
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
When Jesus went to the Mount of Olives, the author St. Luke uses the words, "Jesus went out as usual."...Earlier we have read that Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed...We can see that there is nothing unusual about Him praying in private and in an environment of solitude and by Himself...We can see that He went to places often just to be alone and to pray...This seems to be His usual and ordinary custom...And we see that He withdrew from His disciples to be by Himself to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane...
So it was His custom to be alone when He prayed...Jesus seemed to go to a quiet place to meet with God...So Jesus teaches us to get alone when we pray...Our time with God is to be from our hearts and one on one time with Him...You are a child of God's and our Father is waiting for us -to hear from us, His child, His children...
