John 1:35-42
Disciples Follow Jesus
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”
They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”
39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.
40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ).42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).
John 14:27
Jesus Gives Us a Certain Peace
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Luke 9:58-60
Jesus Had No Place to Lay His Head
58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." 59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." 60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
The first conversation with Jesus and His Disciples was a simple one and went like this...Jesus ask "What do you want?"...The Disciples ask Him back, "Where are You staying?"...Jesus said, "Come and you will see."...And when we look at the first words Jesus ask, "What do you want?'...Our souls "want" to have faith...And faith precedes...Faith is a precursor of Something...Faith precedes Someone...Our souls want to believe in Something or Someone...And not only does faith precede, faith follows...Our souls want to follow the Right Thing, and the Right One...Our souls are restless until it (our soul) finds Him..
When Jesus said, "Come and you will see."...This is an invitation...An invitation for them to follow Him...An invitation that would help them learn "What do you (they) want?"...They could follow Him and learn about Him and learn from Him...They would learn what they wanted...So the Disciples accepted His invitation to come and to see...Jesus is always ready for those who want to follow Him and learn from Him...The invitation is open for those who want to come and see...
There was something about this Man...The Disciples' souls felt the pull of their new Acquaintance...John the Baptist knew who He was...He was from God, and He is the Lamb of God...They too, would learn who He is...They would learn why their souls were being tugged by and why...And they would learn the answer to their question about where was He staying...They would learn that He had no home, no place to lay His head...But that did not or does not matter...They would learn that in following Him that the world around them, was of less importance to Him than the Kingdom of God...The material world around us attracts our attention, and can be an obstacle to God...The Disciples learned there is this cost in following Him...But the Disciples would learn the Kingdom of God was ahead of them...The Kingdom of God was now upon them...God was with them...And they would go and proclaim the Kingdom of God to others...And most importantly, the Disciples souls would be satisfied with a comfort and joy now more than they had ever felt...This feeling of peace was not of this world, but from Him...
