Matthew 9:9-13
Jesus Came for Sinners
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
John 1:14
Jesus is Full of Grace and Truth
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
If you desire to follow Jesus, you must believe and admit that you are a sinner...Because if you are righteous He did not come for you...He says, "For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."...He did not come to earth for the most religious of people, like the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who might have been included in this group...No, He came for the ones who were poor in Spirit, troubled, those who were meek, those who needed His help...And what He gives and gave them was Amazing Grace and Amazing Truths...
