John 1:14-17
Grace and Truth
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5:17-20
Jesus Fulfills the Law of Moses
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Moses gave us the Mosaic Law...These laws and rules were for the people, the twelve tribes, and the nation of the new country of Israel... God knows we need order...God created an order in all of creation...So these laws gave the Israel people and their nation order...If they did not obey these laws, they sinned...And they sinned against their neighbors, when they broke these law or laws or they sinned against God, or they sinned against both God and their neighbor -when they broke one or more of the Mosaic Laws...The law of Moses helped tell people how to live with God and how to live with one another...
When Jesus came to earth and became flesh He made His dwelling among us...The Disciples saw His glory, the glory of the One and Only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth...Jesus did come to rid the people from the law of Moses...Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses...People will always need a Godly order...People will always have this need to follow the One who created them...So Jesus also brought us something else...His teachings and ways and deeds show us grace and truth...He brought and brings grace and Truth to us...He showed us by loving God and loving our neighbor is how we are supposed to live...This is very hard to do this each and everyday...But He did it...This was how He lived while He was on earth...Jesus LOVED God and He LOVED each of His neighbors...He came to show how people could fill their lives with grace and truth...By caring, being patient, loving and concerning, having mercy and being forgiving -Jesus put the Mosaic Law into a different perspective...
The "order" that God gave the twelve tribes through the law of Moses was from the old covenant...Jesus brought us a new covenant...The new covenant of "grace and truth" will become "the order of the world" if we follow Jesus and His teachings...
