John 13:31-35
Jesus' New Commandment: Love One Another
31 When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.
33 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Jesus gives His Disciples a New Commandment...His New Commandment is to love one another...Yet, I think we often overlook this commandment as being a "New Commandment."...But it is "New."...
This new commandment is different than the Greatest Commandment of loving God and loving neighbor...This New Commandment of love is about Jesus and includes Jesus...Jesus has given His Disciples a New Commandment to love each other as He has LOVED them...He tells them His New Commandment is this: Love one another, as He has LOVED them, they must love one another...By loving one another everyone will know that they are His Disciples, if they can love one another....Because He teaches His Disciples to love one another as He has LOVED them, now the LOVE of Jesus shows them is now the standard for love, and thus a New Standard for love...Jesus is the Source for Christians loving one another, and there is no other standard...As Disciples they are to be in fellowship with each other in a loving way, just as Christians are to to in fellowship as they show their love for one another, just as He has shown His Disciples that He LOVED them...As Christians do this they are showing that Jesus is in their lives, because they do love one another, and they are following His teaching...This act of love in the New Commandment shows you are a Disciple of Jesus and other people can outwardly see your love for those around you...
This New Commandment could change the world if everyone did it...So, I might say, if we were all in compliant with Jesus' New Commandment the world would be in Complete Harmony, because the Way of His LOVE, is a Divine, Agape, LOVE - because the world would be seeing this love in action in all of us...Each and everyone of us would love each other and Jesus would be and is that Source of our love...
