John 12:4-8
We Will Always Have the Poor Among Us
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”
Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

God is LOVE
8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Jesus said we will always have the poor among us...He also tells us that the neighbor in he Parable of the Good Samaritan is the one who has mercy on those in need...And some might believe that being poor is not a good thing...But God is going to allow the poor to be here on earth, and according to Jesus, they will always be someone among us who is poor on earth...And God and His Son LOVES the underdog...
So, it would be nice if man's love for the poor, was always non-discriminating...It would be great if man had this ability to share his life, his time, no matter his stature with the poor as he would share it with other friends and everyone, as the Good Samaritan did...All people are his neighbors, if we believe that the entire Bible hang on the teaching to love God and to love our neighbor...And there are discriminating words that one hears about the poor...It seems like we sometimes hear from some that the poor live on the other side of the tracks, or on the bad part of town, or the inner city, or the seedy part of town, or whatever expression you might have heard...
But God LOVES the underdog...He LOVES those lost and in need and need mercy...God is LOVE...And LOVE is this Great Equalizer...Poor, not so poor, or even the rich - LOVE does not discriminate...This is what makes LOVE this Great Equalizer...Since God is LOVE, He shows no discrimination in His LOVE for the poor or the rich...This is why LOVE is the Great Equalizer of everyone in heaven and on earth...Since God LOVES those who need mercy and need help, aren't we supposed to also?...Let us to show our love to all neighbors...
