John 12:39-43
Praise from Others
39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and hardened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”
41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.
42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
Jesus said some men love human praise more than they love praise from God...
It seems that when we are praised by others we do feel better...But I believe that each of us need more time spent with our Bibles and more time spent with Jesus...Maybe the more time we spend reading the Bible and with Jesus the less praise we need from others...So the more time we have in our prayers with Jesus the better our days will go...
Author and Priest Brennan Manning wrote an interesting quote on this topic, “The more time you spend in the presence of Jesus, the less praise you'll need from others because you will have discovered for yourself that He is Enough... And in the Presence, you will delight in the discovery of what it means to live by grace and not by posing.”...
