Frank Lang

Commodore 1968-1970

Frank Lang was the most delightful Irishman. Although born in London, he grew up in Ireland where he was educated at Mulingar College. He trained as a Doctor at Dublin University where he qualified in 1940. He spent the remainder of the war at a practice in Birmingham.

Frank Lang's brother-in-law, John Hooker an ISC committee member had set up in a Doctors practice in Cowes just after the war and Frank soon joined him.

Together the two brothers-in-law shared first a small cruiser called Slieve Foy and then an X-boat No.29 called Slieve Donard, both boats named after mountains in County Down, the area from which their wive came.

An important innovation in 1969 was the big marquee on the quay. It is still used today and on being asked to choose a colour for this red, blue, white, or yellow, Frank Lang, nodding cheerfully to his Irish roots, chose yellow and white - the papal colours, he said.
