Major-General Sir M. White K.C.V.O. C.B. C.B.E.

Sir Martin White's military career started at Sandown Grammer School IW when one of his teachers ran the Sandown Cadet Unit at the old Barracks, where the Heights Fitness Centre and Sandown Medical Centre now stand.

He was persuaded to join the Cadets which he loved, polishing boots and pressing battle dress which he wore with pride. He decided an Army life should be his career path.

After serving a distinguished career as a Senior British Army Officer in Logistics Support, He was appointed Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the Island in 1999 before becoming Lord-Lieutenant in 2006. Over his term, he oversaw hundreds of events in his official capacity and oversaw more than 50 Royal visits to the Island. In his role as Lord-Lieutenant, Sir Martin presented MBE and British Empire Medals, advised on submissions for honours nominations and nominated Island residents to attend Royal Garden Parties.
