Wheel

This Wheel is positioned by the lower staircase.

Wheel from H.M.S. Martin

The ISC History Book states that this steering wheel was probably acquired through the kindness of Commodore Windeler and came from H.M.S. Martin.

This vessel had been broken up in 1944 after spending her later years as a coaling craft C23. Originally H.M.S. Martin had been an eight-gun sailing brig of 508 tons launched in 1890. She had served as a training ship for boys at H.M.S. Vincent until 1903.

The wheel had been converted into a very nice hanging chandelier in the old clubhouse, but the new clubhouse did not lend itself to this, as the ceiling was not high enough to accommodate a chandelier, so the lights were removed and the wheel now hangs over the stairwell.
