I wanted to do something different and take advantage of my stay in Vienna

This spring semester in Vienna, I interned at the Embassy of Mexico in Vienna. I would be at the Embassy 2-3 days a week, and I would go to the Vienna International Center to sit in on different conferences at the UN the rest of the days.

Department: United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)/Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO)

Time commitment: 25-30 hrs/week

At the UN, everything would be in English, but I would transcribe those reports into Spanish to send back to the country of Mexico. I would attend conferences on economic/industrial development in third world countries, nuclear weapon debates, and even some conferences on gender parity within the United Nations. I liked networking with other delegates and interns the most. I got to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and their stories.

This internship will benefit me in my future career with how much I had to network with others. I met so many people, and developed relationships that would last a lifetime. Having to work in Spanish improved my fluency and grammar. Finally, I learned a lot on industrial development, especially in terms of macroeconomics concepts. Overall, it was a once in a lifetime experience that taught me so much!
