IN THE CENTURIES’ DISCORD

By Isidoros Panagiotidis

“Go away animals, get lost!” yell the “welcome” fellow countrymen of a country that gave birth to Democracy and the value of hosting foreigners. Unknown people attack to refugee children that go to school, Internet is full of racist comments so many speak of international conspiracy Nobody, though, wonders how could we fight these racist behaviors.

At first, it would be good if the state secured human rights, regardless of race, religion and color, cultivating that way respect towards the fellow human. Also, it can impose penalties or sanctions to those who show racist behavior, because everyone has the same rights and all the people are equal before the law. Furthermore the state must fight to eliminate social problems such as social inequality and crime that favor the racist attitude’s emphasize. In addition to that, it would be good of it to sensitize the public opinion against racism and reinforce social solidarity at the same time with the contribution of spiritual people.

More specifically spiritual people have to sensitize public opinion because it’s their debt to not blame foreign people. Instead, it’s them who by their personal activity can serve as an example to imitate. Meaning that, with conventions and presentations they can touch racist behaviors or by writing books they are able to pass messages of equality and solidarity to people.

Therefore, mocking comments, fascinating “resistance” showings, conspiracy talking, rage, and phrases like “hurl them into the sea” or “take them in your house” do not actually hurt the victims as much as they poison those that brag that are “superior” to them.
