In this world, the established systems of law enforcement faced extreme challenges as times changed. More Supernaturals grew increasingly comfortable revealing their identities and abilities. The old laws regarding crimes began to crack, unable to cover new challenges presented by these abilities. In this, most law enforcement agencies found themselves ill-equipped to adapt. The unfamiliarity and inability of world leaders to confront these perils head-on only exacerbated the crisis. In 1798, the emergence of aberrations only worsened the situation.
The police were the first to falter. Police stations across the globe becoming ghost towns with many criminals and vagabonds claiming them as their own. After the police, other branches of law enforcement quickly followed suit, leaving society vulnerable to chaos. Governments, paralyzed likely by fear and indecision, watched helplessly as the fabric of order frayed. The larger the city was, the worse the crime and decay leading to a state of post-apocalyptic ruin.
A special branch of military known as Omega Red, patrolled many streets for a prolonged period, attempting to maintain city integrity and aid those in need. However, their methods were often extremely aggressive. Many cities bore the scars of wars fought within the veils between inhabitants, Omega Red, and criminal factions. Some cities were completely destroyed by aberrations drawn to the magic unleashed during the battles before veils could be established.
Even cities that had been secured witnessed the fall of their veil, leaving them in ruins to be reclaimed by nature once more. It was only after so many lives and cities were lost, consumed by growing chaos, that it became glaringly apparent that the government needed to recognize the urgent need for a new, specialized force.
The Realm Defenders Agency emerged, established by the government. They were not traditional or conventional law enforcement however. They were Agents of the realm, many with backgrounds in combat service. This law enforcement entity took the place of the old police, FBI, National Guard, Border Patrol, Coast Guard, and most other common law enforcement agencies, ranking just below the military. Over many years, the cities that remained standing would return to order under their vigilant watch. Their mandate? To address common crimes that the police force once handled, to combat the ever-evolving threats posed by supernatural entities and the aberrations that appeared within the veil.
To carry out this mandate, the classic suits seen today were crafted with a fusion of Magitech and cutting-edge research. These provide an additional layer of armor that, upon activation, enable them to take on these greater threats.
While they mostly wear these suits, it is not uncommon for branches to dress in more relaxed clothing, while maintaining a professional appearance and in the theme of black. However, this is often up to the current acting Chief of each city's RDA branch. They may also wear tactical suits and gear, but they do not wear any form of camo, as that is reserved for the ranks of the military. The chief and higher-ups are responsible for enforcing the uniform, and approving any use of advanced gear. Badges are worn while on duty (unless undercover).
To this day when an aberration breaches the veil many citizens may mobilize to protect their cities. During these times, the RDA will not hinder their efforts. However, they may endeavor to ensure the safety of those nearby or check for casualties afterwards, as it is understood that defeating an aberration may require more than just the RDA, even if lives may be lost in the process. The city must stand. The realm must stand.
(Omega Red is not a joinable organization on sim, Active Duty members are NPC's. Players are welcome to RP retired/AWOL/MIA or 'on leave' enlistees.)
Should Omega Red make an appearance, their chain of Command gives them the Standard Order to contain, quarantine, and purge the problem.
It is not likely that Omega Red will make an appearance in Howling Hills or for Omega Red to reach the news. Often, information behind them & their actions are discovered in Darkweb Media & Gossip among travelers, rather than Direct Media News Outlets.
Should a player wish to play a Retired or AWOL Character of Omega Red. Make sure to note it on the App.
Omega Red are special branch of Military that was formed during the first few years of Veil instillation when there was little authority in cities due to standard police forces essentially being abandoned.
Once an RDA branch is established in a city Omega Red moves out of that city - RDA are NOT part of Omega Red.
Omega Red are no longer as publicly active (due to not being as needed) as before
Most of Omega Red's duties now are disaster response/relief activities, however, they are still far more aggressive in method and don't necessarily help everyone. Their goals are to "contain, eliminate and prevent" corruption and corruption threats.
Should a city's veil go down and citizens as well as RDA not be able to handle it (IE an evacuation situation) Omega Red shows up in force. This is a "Code Red" "Critical" response.
Omega Red do not take chances with corruption. They are a shoot first, ask questions later branch.
If someone appears to be infected in a disaster area, it is likely that Omega Red would eliminate them.
There is no currently known roster but it is rumored that this branch is rugged and trains outside of Veiled locations specifically to assure their members are capable of avoiding and surviving Aberrations and Aberration heavy locations.
This group has been seen in many places across the globe and is said to have squads/companies stationed all throughout the world.
Many of Omega Red's current members and veterans volunteer/work with caravan companies or other branches of military as escorts through Aberration ridden lands.
In this, their uniform remains somewhat of a mystery until a veil goes down and a city plunged into chaos. In this, there have not been many survivors to describe Omega Red.
As a special branch of military for such "Code Red" situations, they are not to wear uniform when not on Active Duty as such could cause mass panic if recognized.
