In the universe of Howling Hills, a collaborative effort between mundane and supernatural beings forged The Veil. A delicate dome, gracefully encasing major trade cities and villages key to survival. Such veils often remain unseen until illuminated just right, where it then resembles a thin, shiny soap bubble.
More than just a haven, the shield serves as a testament to the united effort protecting inhabitants globally from The Corrupt. It filters ambient magic, extracting 'corruption/taint", and stands as a silent guardian in the vast canvas of Howling Hills.
The Corrupt
Even under The Veil's protection, an ominous danger looms.
Depleted magical energy and attempts to still cast become precarious.
The limited magic filter within Supernatural's falters with exhaustion, falling to unavoidable corruption.
As users tread exhaustion's path, the risk elevates, taking a toll on those wielding depleted magic until ultimately, turning them into Aberrations.
The Risk
Within Howling Hills many Supernatural's tread carefully; In crowded public spaces, it's advised to refrain from assuming full form for their own safety from Havoc, DOOM, and others who may wish harm or carry nefarious intent. While allowed, especially in densely populated areas, disguising or portraying anything unusual on the body as a modification is a compromise to avoid drawing unwanted attention to yourself. However, in different sectors of Howling Hills, you may find more daring individuals embracing their full form at times, and taking either calculated or ill-advised risks. Moreover, an undercurrent of fear persists among some, viewing magic as the root cause of corruption and the harbinger of downfall.
The Edge
Beyond The Veil, our world is ravaged by The Corrupt, their magics being unpredictable. Casting outside the Veil is a lethal gamble, drawing The Corrupt to areas high in magic concentration. Approaching the edge weakens the Veil's protection, risking encounters with threats and unpredictable manifestations of corrupted magic. It's a delicate dance between safety and the chaos just beyond.
