Discovery & Research Guidelines
How to discover things that are not on the website! This provides structure and helps Lore Historian Staff know what lore discoveries to write for you.
Find something to study
Find what to research through RP. For example, find test materials from characters with existing Corruption. Ask a question based on observations (Ex. How does this work? Why is this happening? What caused this?).
Check for Available Knowledge
Look into in-world resources or the website so you are building on known knowledge rather than repeating it. Things listed on the website are either common knowledge or information easily found in books (Unless otherwise marked). Ask around in RP; try building relationships with others who have already done research.
Design an Experiment
Based on what you've learned ICly, find something you can test or look for.
Roleplay experiments might include:
Control Scenario, if applicable (Something you Know will happen)
Independent variables (What you Change)
Dependent variables (What you are Measuring or Observing)
Documenting actions and outcomes through RP logs or summarized reports
Roleplaying out Research or Experiments
Research Discovery (Library style RP):
Ask a specific question stating what you are looking for (Ex. info on a historical figure)
Where you are looking for it (Ex. Scriptorium)
Roll for success
Experimental Discovery (Lab style RP):
What you are doing specifically (Ex. using a specific type of magic to try and manipulate corruption out of the body)
Roll for success,
Lore Inquiry Guidelines
1 Roll per RP Post,
Rolls must be verified (Include a screenshot of the post with the roll, or DM supervision of scene)
Each player can roll once per Specific Question or Test (Multiple people can ask the same question)
Maximum 5 rolls per ticket, or 15 rolls for group study (no more than 5 rolls per player per ticket please)
Submit a Lore Ticket
Lore Historian staff usually write responses from scratch using guidelines for lore consistency. Not all hidden lore is written, so this may take time. Clear, specific questions will give you more useful answers.
In the HH Discord, find the support-tickets channel. Choose "Lore Inquiries" to open your ticket.
Start with Where the experiment or research took place, When, and Who took part
Include text versions of Questions & Rolls. Add screenshots of posts with associated dice rolls in the same image so it is clear what you are looking into, and how
Include a copy of the full RP log for context
Wait. Lore Inquiries can take up to a week, if you wait longer than this, feel free to reach out in your ticket.
If you want to write your own lore, you can! To do so, pitch your idea in a Lore Inquiry ticket including the concept and what you want to do with it in RP, so we can help you make sure it aligns with existing lore.
