Who Needs One?
If you are buying a fully automatic MP5K, you do not need an FFL. However, if you are selling one, you do, as the ATF regulates it, because it is an automatic weapon. If you are not in the business of selling firearms but are making a private sale of a semi-automatic MP5K PDW, you do not need a license as it does not carry the same regulations. Gunsmiths, ammunition manufacturers, importers, and gun manufacturers all need different types of FFLs. If you intend on collecting antique or curio firearms, you can apply for an FFL that will allow the gun to be shipped to your home.
What Should Gun Buyers Know?
If you buy a gun online or sell it to someone in certain states, it must go through an FFL transfer. There is a background check and paperwork involved, and the FFL will usually charge you a fee for their services. If you receive an FFL, that means you can have the firearms sent straight to your door, as you have already gone through a vigorous vetting process. How Much Does It Cost?
