First things first, when you begin your gun refurbishing odyssey, start small. That does not mean you should start on 22 LR or 25 ACP mouse guns and work your way up. Whether you begin with a 25 ACP vest pistol or a 10 gauge shotgun, start with an inexpensive one that it will not break your heart to make a few mistakes with. While you may have some luck at gun shows, they can be unreliable and few and far between without a whole lot of travel. Your best bet by far is to buy guns online and buy parts online from online gun auction sites and specialty sites.
Be Meticulous
Particularly when you start refurbishing, be extremely meticulous. The first gun you work on, record its make, model, caliber, year, value, and condition as best you can. If you do not know how to take it apart entirely and put it back together successfully, learn how. Once you have a complete takedown and reassembly mastered, catalog every piece and its condition. Becoming intimately familiar with just one firearm can prove very helpful for firearms in the future. And do not be shy about joining an online gunsmithing or refurbishing community and asking a lot of questions. Generally, fellow enthusiasts will be happy to answer.
