3 Bottleneck Pistol Cartridges to Consider

The efficacy and value of bottlenecked cartridges have been recognized for well over a century. “Necking down” a cartridge case to accommodate a bullet of a smaller caliber allows for more volume and, therefore, more propellant. The result is a smaller caliber bullet with substantially improved velocity, range, and accuracy at a distance. The significant performance benefit conferred is responsible for the majority of popular rifle cartridges being bottlenecked. For whatever reason, the same has not been the case for most handgun cartridges, with some notable exceptions like the FN Five seveN. Next time you consider a handgun, keep those high-performance bottlenecked calibers in mind.
