Sometimes finding your place means baring the scars of history.

All Avery wanted was a normal senior year and all that was shattered when her family moved to take care of her dying grandmother, Mama Letty, in small-town Bardell. The longer she is there, the more she begins to wonder about her mother’s strained and tense relationship with Mama Letty. Shortly after befriending Jade and Simone, locals who are a rescue for the homesick Avery, the webs of family trauma, racism, and homophobia in the South quickly begin to unravel. Can Avery break the cycles of history or will Bardell tear her down?
