Global Arts PTA Meeting Minutes

Meeting Participants:
Principal’s Report (Principal Franks)
- Great first couple weeks.
- PDIS
- Follow the school on social media; she is on Facebook and IG, etc.
o If you don’t want your student on SM, please let their teach know
- She has an open door policy. Please contact her with any thoughts or concerns.
- First Gathering will be Sept. 27. They have been practicing their Gathering etiquette.
o Please arrive at 3:15 to allow time to get seated
- Inclement weather policy for parent pickup: Students will stay in the cafeteria until they are picked up by their parents.
Approve the minutes from the May 2024 meeting.

Pondie reviewed the mission of the PTA.
- Fun, fundraise, and connect
- Pondie gave ideas on each of these items.
- Went over process for volunteering at the school
o Must complete a background check (at no cost)
Treasurer’s Report
- Thank you to Stephanie Stegeman for setting up an excellent system the past two years
- Account overview: Checking and Savings
- What GAP PTA supports
o Carnival
o Teacher Appreciation
o Teacher reimbursements
o Additional support (washer and dryer for upper campus)
o Artist Residencies!
§ Hire local artists (supporting local community) from different backgrounds, different cultures, and using different mediums
§ It’s not just art—it’s storytelling, it’s cultural engagement, it is significant learning and personal enrichment.
§ For all the grades.
§ School pays for some of it, but PTA’s budget fills in the gaps.
o Administrative dues and insurance
o Health office support
- Sources of income—main fundraisers
o Direct Ask (fall)
o Plant Sale (spring)
o Square1 Art
o Workplace match
o Coffee purchase (roaster donates 29% to PTA)
§ 2023-2024 Income was just under $20,000 from these sources
- Member Dues
o Not required to participate in the PTA

§ $6.25 for teachers
Carnival (Maureen)
- Happening this fall: October 24, 5:30 to 7:30 pm
- Immediate volunteer positions
o Setup and teardown coordinator
o Games coordinator
o Volunteer coordinator
- The biggest challenge of the carnival is getting all the volunteers organized; it’s very volunteer-heavy.
- Primarily for Pre-K through 5th graders
o Games
o Food
o Obstacle course
- Free to participate: don’t need to buy tickets to participate
- Each child who attends will get a stamp or wristband, which requires an adult to be with them.
- Will be at Lower Campus
- Upper Campus students will get to be volunteers to assist
- Upper Campus will have its own Palace celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 9 (lower campus members will
GAP Gear Update
- Old favorites and new options. Garment quality is generally higher, with embroidery.
- Still trying to collect enough money to get at least a shirt for everyone. There is an option on the site to donate money to go towards additional shirts, or to request a shirt.
- Orders will be taken until about the end of October.
Mulch Update!
- GAP has a pile of mulch that needs distributing to the playgrounds
- Need volunteers—preferably this Saturday; volunteer by contacting Stephanie Stegeman
PTA Meeting Schedule going forward
- Original schedule overlaps with SPPS school board meeting
Upper Campus Update: Principal Jones
- Working in conjunction with Principal Franks
- Happy to have a partner at the Lower Campus
