Global Arts PTA Meeting Minutes

Meeting Participants: Principal Jones, Dawn Puroway, Stephanie Stegeman, Maureen Mullaney Vu, Danielle Beck, Ericka Dennis, Daniel Marx, Jason Johnson, Kaylan Pundsack, Kimchi Nguyen, Michelle O'brien, Michelle Klemmer, Pondie, Andrea, Patty Reyes, Emily Harer, Julissa

Meeting called to order at 6:07 pm by Dawn Puroway 

Introduction  - Dawn Puroway

Secretary’s Report - Maureen Mullaney Vu 

Approval of April Minutes. Motioned by Stephanie Stegman, seconded by Jason Johnson

Treasurer’s Report - Stephanie Stegeman

1. April Report

   1. Income for April

   2. Teacher Reimbursement expenses

   3. Spirit Wear 

   4. Bagels for Teachers

   5. Bank account $22,000 combined for savings and checking

   6. Money will be moved in savings account for over the summer to $10,000

   7. We will be paying spirit wear and plant sale checks.

2. 2023-2024 Budget

   1. Budget was shared

   2. Dawn asked for feedback about areas we have in the budget.

   3. Conversation about how to communicate what PTA does to families. Maybe a monthly update to families in the Smores 

   4. Ability to support affinity group meetings

   5. Share the budget in June smore

Principal’s Report - Chreese Jones

1. Playground - emails were sent to Tom Parent. Done 3 times. Greg Zernicle. Maintenance supervisor will be overseeing the labor.

Family Liaison Report - Ms. Dennis

1. GAP - Family Engagement Plan 2023-24 (FEP)

2. Aiming to engage the students.

3. Community partnership 

4. May day tradition at lower campus 

5. Ms. Dennis opened conversation up to families. 

6. Hispanic Month, AAPI Month, Earth Day

7. Julissa Smith - first year parent was hoping to see more in the Fall. A handout reminder that parents can read or a quarterly calendar. Getting to know other parents.Parent directory or classroom list.

8. Ms. Harer - shared the gathering schedules. 

9. Could we film a commercial about the gathering and put it on the website?

10. Could PTA pick a certain color of sending messages home.

11. School wide communication.

12. Puroway - welcome back potluck

13. Ms. Dennis encouraged folks to reach out to her

Dawn Puroway - Teacher Appreciation Week

Chalk was put out at doors at both campuses. Write a message of support for staff. PTA is providing a fun snack tomorrow for teachers and staff.

Carnival Planning Discussion 

1. Maureen mentioned we are looking for volunteers

2. Alumni students - reach out to Ms. Rasheed. 

3. Question about tickets. Should everyone get at least 5 tickets? Consider charge per person

4. Ms. Harer -there  used to be a silent auction. Raffle - is more equitable

Community Building

1. Dawn - community building - 2 saturday get togethers coming up. This saturday - cherokee heights Elem. On the 20th - frogtown community get-together. Come if you can. 

2. Pondi - Bring a volleyball

Ms. Dennis - Baseball tickets for St. Paul Saints for tomorrow - first come first serve

Stephanie Stegeman - “Any meeting worth having is worth evaluating”.
