Whenever people work out, either in the gym or at home or anywhere else, safety should be their number one priority. On this note, Garry Y. Itkin lists down some safety measures people should always practice when working out.
Return the equipment properly.
One of the most common causes of injury when working out is when people trip over dumbbells that are left on the floor. Returning equipment, especially in a gym, is not only safe – it’s the right and considerate thing to do. It shows respect for others who are using the gym.
Always do warm-ups, cool downs, and stretches.
Warm-ups, cool downs, stretches are more important than people think. Besides prepping a body for hard work or post-workout rest, they prevent injury. Pre-workout stretches make sure the body is flexible for the routine. Cool-downs are the opposite of warm-ups as they lower the temperature of the body gradually. Stretching before and after workouts ensures proper blood flow to the muscles and prevent muscle pain later on, Garry Y. Itkin adds.
