The Chief of Farnfoss is named Cal Drako and he was appointed by the Sovereign specifically because Cal is a friend of his. He rules in a totalitarian fashion and exerts complete control over the entire township. He works closely with Captain Tywin of the local station of Red Brand soldiers, and his right hand man Sebastian Jakard which he uses to hide information and ensure the true intentions of Cal are secret, even from Tywin. Cal demands stiff taxes from the citizens of Farnfoss, as well as cracks down hard on offenders of his strict, and somewhat arbitrary laws.
The township is mainly protected by the large number of Red Brand guard stationed there under the watch and control of Captain Tywin. Other than that, the location within the Dustwallow Marsh provides a lot of natural defense against invaders or other creatures... although recently the Marsh has been experiencing some interesting difficulties...
Farnfoss is a small township that is located in a break within the Dustwallow Marsh. Thus it serves as a respite for travellers into and out of the Marsh, generating most of its money from passersby and temporary residents. Those that are permanent residents mainly work in the lumber mills, or in the service industry that serves the incoming and outgoing travelers.
Beneath the township, within the sewers, Cal is conducting experiments on young women wherein they are offered as sacrifices to the Eye, and are then possessed, exhibiting symptoms of illness until they finally turn into banshees/hags. There seems to be some kind of Cult, or group of Orcs that live under Farnfoss in these sewers. Their true intentions are still unknown, but one thing is for certain, they are up to no good. It was discovered there that a rift to another dimension was being opened by a Succubus and Incubus that were plaguing the denizens of the township for months, luring them down there as sacrifices.
Aside from this, there is an Adventurer's Guild that exists in the town, led by Filip Clay, and tasked with exploring the Marsh and making sure no lurking dangers threaten the township. Their relationship with Cal and the Conclave are tentative at best, but nonetheless, this guild seems to be doing well in Farnfoss.
While there are few instances of crime here and there, for the most part, Farnfoss is a township of law abiding citizens. Whether this is out of fear of Cal's wrath, or simply because they are good people, crime rates are low, and when they happen, there is often a public showing to scare off others. Most of the crimes committed are done by the travellers that pass through the city and mostly include petty theft, and assault in the bars. Other than that, Farnfoss is a relatively normal township as far as crime goes.
The rustic settlement of Farnfoss is located in a clearing within the Dustwallow Marsh and is surrounded by mangrove trees. The muddy and clay-like soil makes the lands around Farnfoss pretty unferitle, however the abundance of trees enables it to be a pretty substantial source of lumber for the Conclave. The unique color and texture of the mangrove trees is becoming desirable, and this fact has ramped up the lumber mills that have propped up. Being in a marsh, it is often humid, hot, and sticky in Farnfoss, with locals very rarely needing any pants or long sleeve shirts.
The downside of being in a marsh are the creatures that wander in. Luckily though, the Adventurer's Guild handles most of those issues, so the average Farnfoss citizen is not in fear of their life. Despite that, though, it is still advised to remain inside during the late night hours, just in case.
After having their true identities found out, the group was invited to Cal's Estate for what they thought was a dinner thanking them for stopping the theft of his daughter in law's belongings by a man named Vestin and his goblin friend Nott. Unfortunately, this was a political ploy to strongarm the group into signing onto the Conclave and Kern and giving up Yarrin to them, and in return receive riches and power. When the group refused, Cal used one of his "experiments" to attack them and nearly succeeded, but was killed by the group along with Tywin and Sebastian. The Estate, too,was lit on fire by Cal's ex-slave Hannah killing all inside, presumably. Ever since, the township has been under lockdown, and in fact, they have kicked out the Adventurer's Guild as they believe they were involved in this unfortunate "tragedy."
Aside from this, the group caught wind of some strange occurrences going on underneath Farnfoss, namely in the sewers, where Cal was experimenting. There, a rift was being opened by the Incubus and Succubus and the group fought a Cenotaur Armanite defending the Succubus and Incubus while they performed their rituals. The group ended up stopping them, and taking the book they used to conduct this ritual, thereby closing the rift, hopefully for good. Armed with their book, and newfound knowledge of the Eye, and a mysterious figure named Durlan Quiberos, the group leaves Farnfoss in a dramatically different state than when they found it.
Currently, Farnfoss is a little bit in chaos as there is no Chief, nor Captain, keeping order, but knowing the Conclave, replacements are not far behind.
