Lesson 31: Conformal Mappings

Preview

Today we’ll return to our study of complex linear mappings (Lesson 5) to plug up some gaps we left open in that lesson. In particular, we’ll finally prove that linear mappings preserve angles (Module I) in the course of introducing a new property of some analytic functions—conformal mapping. Then in Module II we’ll introduce a new class of functions that have that conformality property as well as other nice properties (e.g., analyticity). We’ll explore the useful mapping properties of that new class of functions in the next lesson.
