Un saludo a todos, les habla Óscar, y por si no lo saben, soy costarricense, quiere decir que provengo de un país hermoso llamado Costa Rica. Mi país es conocido por sus paisajes y el buen clima, que lo digan muchos canadienses que viven en Costa Rica desde hace mucho tiempo. Además, por si les interesa, podría comentarles un poco más de mi país más adelante. Por mientras, les voy a contar acerca de nuestro viaje por el Parque Nacional Palo Verde. 

Greetings to all, Oscar is speaking to you, and in case you don't know, I am Costa Rican, it means that I come from a beautiful country called Costa Rica. My country is known for its landscapes and the good climate, let many Canadians who have lived in Costa Rica for a long time say so. Also, if you are interested, I could tell you a little more about my country later. For a while, I'm going to tell you about our trip to Palo Verde National Park. 

Primero, mi familia y yo queríamos pasear a un sitio interesante, por eso, se nos ocurrió ir a Palo Verde, que está a pocos kilómetros en carro de mi casa. Además, mi hermana reservó un viaje en bote por el humedal. Por lo tanto, tendríamos que levantarnos temprano para poder apreciar todos los lugares turísticos del parque y el humedal. Al día siguiente, nos decidimos a viajar al Parque Nacional Palo Verde. 

First, my family and I wanted to walk to an interesting place, so we decided to go to Palo Verde, which is a few kilometers by car from my house. Also, my sister booked a boat trip through the wetland. Therefore, we would have to get up early to be able to appreciate all the tourist places of the park and the wetland. The next day, we decided to travel to Palo Verde National Park. 

Como dato interesante, la biodiversidad es la gran variedad de organismos vivos que habitan en el planeta, ya sea que se encuentren en ecosistemas terrestres, aéreos, marinos o acuáticos. 

As an interesting fact, biodiversity is the great variety of living organisms that inhabit the planet, whether they are found in terrestrial, aerial, marine, or aquatic ecosystems. 

Para continuar con la historia, el trayecto de mi casa al parque era muy largo, pero la espera valió la pena. Cuando llegamos al sitio, nos encontramos con un lugar lleno de árboles y el clima estaba muy caliente y seco. Además, podría decir que era un sitio desolado y solo un par de personas trabajaban ahí. Después, nos encontramos con un hombre que nos mostró el mapa del Parque Nacional y nos recomendó ir al Sendero Elevado, lo que despertó mi curiosidad. Por otro lado, nos habíamos olvidado que el hombre del bote nos estaba esperando y por tal razón, nos apuramos en llegar pronto. Después de unos minutos, llegamos al muelle y el hombre estaba en el bote, esperándonos. 

To continue with the story, the journey from my house to the park was very long, but the wait was worth it. When we arrived at the site, we found a place full of trees and the weather was very hot and dry. Besides, I could say that it was a desolate place and only a couple of people worked there. Afterward, we met a man who showed us the map of the National Park and recommended we go to the Elevated Trail, which aroused my curiosity. On the other hand, we had forgotten that the man from the boat was waiting for us, and for that reason, we hurried to arrive soon. After a few minutes, we arrived at the dock and the man was on the boat, waiting for us. 

Otro dato interesante es que en la región tropical se encuentra el 50% de las especies del mundo. En estas zonas se localiza Costa Rica, país que cuenta con aproximadamente el 4% de la totalidad de las especies. También, se calcula que en nuestro país existen más de 500 mil especies de organismos.

Another interesting fact is that 50% of the world's species are found in tropical regions. Costa Rica is located in these areas, a country that has approximately 4% of all the species. It is also estimated that there are more than 500 thousand species of organisms in our country.

Más adelante, comenzamos la travesía dentro del bote para observar las muchas especies de animales. Primero, nos encontramos unos cocodrilos durmiendo y tomando el sol. Luego, nos topamos con unas aves hermosas como la garza azul y algunas águilas. Finalmente, vimos algunos monos cariblanca que seguramente querrían tomar agua del humedal. Indudablemente, el recorrido en bote fue una experiencia fantástica para nosotros, incluso podría decir que fue peligroso, porque mi asiento del bote se quebró y casi caigo al agua. Dichosamente, estoy muy bien y agradecido.

Later, we started the journey inside the boat to observe the many species of animals. First, we found some crocodiles sleeping and sunbathing. Then, we came across some beautiful birds like the great blue heron and some eagles. Finally, we saw some white-face monkeys that would surely want to drink water from the wetland. Undoubtedly, the boat tour was a fantastic experience for us. I could even say that it was dangerous, because my boat seat broke and I almost fell into the water. Fortunately, I am very well and grateful.  

Para añadir un dato curioso más, este Parque Nacional se encuentra entre las Áreas Silvestres Protegidas de Costa Rica con el objetivo de conservar la mayoría de los hábitats existentes en el país. También, los parques nacionales son ecosistemas de importancia nacional e internacional, estos tienen poca actividad humana y gran atractivo turístico, recreativo y económico. 

To add one more curious fact, this National Park is among the Protected Wild Areas of Costa Rica with the aim of conserving most of the existing habitats in the country. Also, national parks are ecosystems of national and international importance, they have little human activity and great tourist, recreational and economic attractions. 

Siguiendo con la historia, después del recorrido en bote, nos dirigimos a la siguiente parada, al Sendero Elevado, el cual diría fue el lugar más bonito de todos. Nos encontramos con un puente sobre un espejo de agua, donde observamos muchos animales como garzas, patos, cocodrilos y caballos conviviendo juntos. Fue lo más extraordinario de nuestro viaje. Incluso si se los contara, no me creerían. Por esa razón, hice un video como prueba. Por supuesto, les recomiendo que lo vean, está buenísimo. 

Continuing with the story, after the boat tour, we headed to the next stop, the Elevated Trail, which I would say was the most beautiful place of all. We found a bridge over a water mirror, where we observed many animals such as herons, ducks, crocodiles, and horses living together. It was the most extraordinary thing on our trip. Even if I told you, you wouldn't believe me. For that reason, I made a video as proof. Of course, I recommend you watch it, it's great. 

Como último dato curioso, el humedal de Palo Verde es un sitio RAMSAR, quiere decir que es un lugar grande con enfoque a la conservación de las especies de aves que viven ahí. Este reconocimiento solo lo tienen algunos sitios en el mundo. Por esa razón, Costa Rica protege con mucho esfuerzo este importantísimo lugar.

As a last curious fact, the Palo Verde Wetland is a RAMSAR site, which means that it is a large place with a focus on the conservation of the bird species that live there. Only a few places in the world have this recognition. For that reason, Costa Rica protects this very important place with a lot of effort.

Espero que esta historia haya sido de su agrado y que puedan aprender un poco de la naturaleza y de Costa Rica. La independencia es algo que existe, es el gran mito de la sociedad. No hay nación, ni pueblo o individuo independiente.  Todos dependemos los unos de los otros. La naturaleza está antes que todos nosotros y somos hijos, por lo tanto, nuestra obligación es respetarla y darle un uso adecuado.” 

Finally, I leave you the following message from our Costa Rican indigenous leader Alejandro Swaby Rodríguez:

"Nothing is nothing, everything has a beginning and an end, everything has a why. The interrelation between man and biodiversity is infinite. Independence is something that exists, it is the great myth of society. There is no nation, no people or independent individual.  We all depend on each other. Nature comes before all of us and we are children, therefore, our obligation is to respect it and put it to proper use.”
