As a group we went through thoroughly what we wanted to be on each page and the reasoning behind it, we linked it all back to what the client wanted the digital magazine to be about and the tone and then we explored the content and how it would be presented on the page.
Cover Page:
We wanted the cover page to be a simplistic design, it needs to give the user an idea of what they would find inside the magazine and set the tone. We wanted to use a themed image and the title of the magazine, with a button linking to the digital magazine itself. We had ideas that there could be small previews to what was on each page like you would see on a paper magazine too, this would give the user even more information on what they may find. However we still wanted it to be simplistic, we also wanted to include the Andrew Grant logo on this page so that it is tied into the brand and that it is obvious who had created the magazine.
Information Page:
This would act as an introduction to the page and therefore it would have information such as, about the magazine, a small about Andrew Grant, contents page, and navigation to the rest of the site. We wanted this page to have lots of imagery on, this making it visually pleasing and give the user an impression on how the layout of the rest of magazine will be. This page needs to have clean design as it will hold a lot of information and we do not want it to be overcrowded or look text heavy. There will be a header image across all the pages, each one different and relating to the page but tying the magazine together.
Dogs:
The dogs page would be the first of the magazine article pages, this is because we wanted the first page to be something fun and relatable for the reader. We had a few ideas for this page, such as something that would relate to the brand, therefore we wanted to include articles about moving your dog to a new home, and we also wanted to combine what the client wanted which was the reference to the local area, so therefore we wanted to include where to walk your dog locally, which would reflect on the theme of the page and also what the client asked for in the brief. This page would also require a lot of imagery as the places to walk your dog locally can be referred to with images, so the reader can make a judgement on which looks the most appealing to them. We also decided to make the magazine a seasonal issue, and therefore the update we are designing coincides with Christmas which allows us to play around with content such as what to get you dog for Christmas, which would help to link the site with search engines and outside sources that may bring users to the site.
Worcestershire:
The content on this page was important to us as we wanted to showcase the best of our local area, to encourage people to spend time here, to show people that it is a great place to live and to also inform those who may have just moved here. This page needed to relate to a larger audience, therefore we wanted to include content such as places to eat around Worcestershire, but also family friendly days out such as West Midlands Safari park. This then also allows us to add a link into the website to all the places we are talking about and also almost advertising in Worcestershire, which would make our digital magazine more commercial and also more likely to be recognised and viewed. We also thought the layout on this page should be simple and changeable, as we thought each issue could focus on a different area within Andrew Grants catchment range, which therefore meant the site should be easy to update and change the topics and articles that are being mentioned, in order to stay relevant and attract a larger audience. We thought the areas that we are showcasing could be best displayed in a slideshow or gallery with a small amount of text with the option to read more, but the photographs and imagery should be able to speak for themselves.
Busy Mums:
This page was focused on moms and things we could do to help them, therefore we thought hard about the content that would be most effective, we referred back to our digital magazine design being a winter issue and it being close to Christmas, so we therefore wanted to include activities that mothers could do with their children. We wanted to include receipts such as making Christmas cookies, and also more artistic activities such as making your own Christmas tree ornaments. These are things that we think would be fun for family time and also something the children can learn from. This therefore was very client based and shows that Andrew Grant care about their customers, but it also can help those who are not customers of Andrew Grant who are just looking for things to do with their children over Christmas. We also wanted to include articles that would be beneficial to the mothers, something they could read for advice, or for fun so the page is not just focused on the children and what would make them happy over Christmas.
Counutry Homes:
This page is the page that is most on brand, this is where Andrew Grant could choose to advertise houses if they wish to do that within the digital magazine, we want to add different catchment areas to this page, so it is therefore easier for the user to pick the area they are interesting instead of scrolling through lots of houses that may not be in the area they are interested in. However we wanted to also make this page relatable and link it back to the winter issue of the magazine, and therefore we want to add content to this page such as how to decorate your house at Christmas and we also thought about adding kitchen instalments in country homes. This would make the page more interesting to a wider audience and not just be focused on a audience that may be interested in buying a country home.
Navigation Bar:
We want to include a navigation bar across all the pages, like you would find on a website but ours would act as a content element as the user will be able to see the pages on there and just use it to move from page to page and choose which pages they are interested in reading, this way they do not have to spend the time looking through the whole magazine and at areas that they may not be interested in. This may increase the user experience as they can just find the information that they are looking for and therefore may spend more time looking at the site.
