Closing out games vs. Respecting a defeated opponent
Closing out games: We 100% want to teach our players how to close out games. Part of closing out games is to learn how to maintain possession of the ball even when there is a quick scoring opportunity. This is extremely important when in tight games against good opponents.
Respecting a defeated opponent: When winning a lopsided game, teams should implement these strategies in a quiet & respectful manner. This is a time to stay focused and get better, not play on the sideline.
No fast breaks
Use non-dominant hand only
Run "Pressler" into offensive sets
Score ONLY off of settled offense, not defensive mistakes or transition
Give your weaker players control to get them better
Have the defensemen play attack and give the attack long poles
Be sure your players lay off checks & unnecessary contact
