New School Hours and Half days

Dear Parents,

We hope you enjoy the festive weekend and make memories with your loved ones!

Here is an important update from Discovery;

In light of the latest government directives regarding school hours and working hours, our school day will start later and end later.

We will now have two half-days to accommodate our clubs and enrichment program and align with other international programs in and outside Rwanda.

The changes will take effect on the first day of term 2 (Wednesday, 4th January 2023).

Arrival/Drop-Off Time

• 8:20 am: School gates will open

• 8:30 am:  The first lesson will start for all students

Dismissal Time/Pick-up Time

• 12:30: Half-day Students

• 16:30: Full-day Students

Two Half-Days

Tuesday and Friday will be half days

• 13:30 is the pick-up/dismissal time for full-day students on Tuesday and Friday

• The two half days will give adequate time for clubs and other extracurricular activities

Half Day Clubs

• Most clubs will take place on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 14:00  to 16:30 (2 - 4.30 pm)

• A new club and enrichment schedule will be shared within the first week of school

• Registrations will be online, as usual

4:30 Enrichment Services

For parents who can only leave work at 5 pm, we will provide extended day enrichment services with extra staff to engage and care for the children.

Sessions will run from 4:30  to 5:15 pm and parents will pick up their children between 5:15 and 5:30 pm.

• All students will attend the same clubs.

• The clubs will run in seasons ( a few clubs for a few weeks, followed by a few weeks of another set of clubs)

• We will publish a schedule during the first week of school

Services will include the following optional clubs

• Kinyarwanda Language Club

• Traditional Dance Club

• Extra Soccer/Basketball

• Read-Aloud/Story Time

• Free play

• After School Care 

4:30 Enrichment fees: We will confirm the fees and share the registration link next week.

Please note that this service will be subject to adequate demand. A minimum of 15 students should be interested.

Week 1 Guidelines (4-6th January)

• Clubs, enrichment, and afterschool services will start on 9th January 2023.

• Wednesday the 4th and Thursday the 5th

  • All FULL-DAY students will be dismissed at 4:30 pm. 

  • There will be no after-school enrichment services

• Friday (6th) January 2023

  •  A half-day for ALL students

  • We will not have any clubs or after-school enrichment services 

Classes resume on Wednesday, 4th January 2023.
