10/19/13 District Results- High School Girls Move On!

The high school girls placed 5th in their section of today's D1 district championship at Watkins Memorial, qualifying to the regional meet as a team for the first time since 2010. Megan Tamasovich (12th, 20:03 PR) and Cassidy Long (19th, 20:14 PR) both ran the best races of their careers, earning All-District honors with their top 20 performances. Julia Cook (43rd, 21:12), Natalie Tennison (45th, 21:17 PR) and Nicole Tennison (48th, 21:31) used excellent pack racing to round out the team scoring.

Megan and Cassidy became the fifth and sixth girls from Canal Winchester to earn All-District honors in Division 1 (CW moved from D2 to D1 in 2009), joining Emily Pifer (3rd 2009), Penny Boswell (5th 2009), Kayla Scott (8th 2009, 13th 2010 & 1st 2011) , and Ali Stauffer (16th 2009 & 16th 2010).

The high school boys finished 8th in their section, placing where they were seeded in a very talented field. Jason Appel led the team with his 33rd place finish (17:28). Luke Schirr (45th, 17:50) and Ethan Fusek (48th, 17:54) also recorded top 50 finishes for the team. Nick Sweeney ended his high school cross country career on a very good note, placing fifth on the team in 68th place.

The junior varsity athletes raced very well in the non-scored open race. In typical Watkins fashion, the course was a complete muddy mess by the end of the day, but CW athletes placed very well in the event. Standouts included senior Sarah Collins who placed 20th in the girls race, and sophomore Kaity Seitz who managed a season best time (24:55) in the incredibly sloppy conditions.

Congrats Indians! More information & pictures to be posted soon.

The High School Girls finished 6th place out of 8 teams with 135 points, besting conference rivals Hilliard Darby and Westerville South. The girls ran a gutsy and determined race, led by top 25 finishes from sophomores Megan Tamasovich (20th, 20:15), Joelle Zuberi (22nd, 20:26), and Cassidy Long (23rd, 20:28). Senior captain Nicole Tennison placed fifth on the team with her best race of the year (38th, 21:23), exemplifying a number of lady Indians who ran personal record times on the flat and lightening fast course.

The High School Boys continue to improve, placing 7th out of 8 teams (164 points) ahead of Westerville Central. Junior Jason Appel (20th, 16:38), freshman Luke Schirr (29th, 16:56), and freshman Ethan Fusek (30th, 16:56) each enjoyed top 30 finishes for the boys team.
