10/30/10 Regional Results: Girls 14th, Boys 10th, Genther Qualifies to State!
The high school teams both enjoyed great conclusions to their seasons today in the Divison 1 Regional competition held at Pickerington North High School.
The high school girls finished 14th out of 16 teams with 301 points. Having narrowly qualified to the regional event last week by one point, the girls finished roughly where expected in the very competitive race. Junior Kayla Scott ran her best race of the postseason, finishing 36th individually with a time of 20:21 on a generally slow course. Senior Christy Wildermuth ended her high school cross country career with a great race, finishing fifth on the team with her 99th place finish.
The 2010 girls squad ended the season with a record of 90 wins and 34 losses. They won the Springfield Northwestern and Fairfield Union Invitationals, and were Mid-State League Buckeye champions for the 4th consecutive year. The team continued to show their ability to compete at the D1 level in central Ohio, as evidenced by their second D1 regional birth in as many years. Congratulations girls team on a great season!
The high school boys finished 10th out of 16 teams with 265 points. The race was likely the team's best performance of the year, as they topped three teams who had outperformed them the week before at the district. Junior Jarrod Genther qualified individually for the state meet with a dramatic 16th place finish (top 16 individuals qualified). Jarrod held off a massive kick from the 17th place finisher down the stretch to qualify by one tenth of a second. Senior Micah Cobb ended his high school xc career with his best race, finishing 35th in the highly competitive field. With six of seven runners returning next year, the boys plan on using today's race as a springboard for a higher finish in upcoming seasons.
The 2010 boys squad ended the season with a record of 94 wins and 35 losses. They were champions of the Canal Winchester Invitational and they won their first Mid-State League Buckeye title since 2007. The boys qualified to regionals in D1 for the first time in school history and also advanced an individual to the D1 state cross country meet for the first time in school history. Congratulations boys team on a great season!
