Well folks, here is the update. We are in California, but unfortunately now our time is up and we are ready to head back to Oz. Next we head to Tassy and then back to the mid north coast of NSW before heading back to WA beginning of August.
So the story goes as thus, after 19 odd hours on planes we arrived in LAX and was picked up by Alex and Abel, we were very happy to see them. Home to their house in a place called Pacific Palisades.
Sat around chatting and unpacking and then over to Drey's sister Daniel and bro in law Jessie's house for a big family get together, was really nice to meet most of the families on this side of the world. Slept well that night.
Then it was time to explore, first up about 10 minutes away up in the hills. Here we are looking south over Santa Monica and Venice. LA city is to the left but out of the pic.
Pog and Tuppy came to California with us but...... and there is always a but, a quick check of the CCTV showed the pair of them making friends and mucking about.
And what is worst, here are the pair of them teasing Mr Potato Head with images of roasted and baked potato's
Some good time sitting in the back yard, the weather is beautiful.
Bit of jet lag and I figure a relax in the hot tub seemed like a fine idea. didn't last long though hahaha
While I'm relaxing though there is all sorts of shenanigans going on in the big pool.
Turning on the spa creates lots of bubbles which created lots of fun
Luckily Pog and Tuppy were on life guard duty
An underwater selfie is the call of the day
One of the locals called a gopher snake, it can replicate the sound of a rattle snake but is not venomous. Find them all over the place, unfortunately this guy got caught crossing the road.
No we are not totally engrossed in watching "How to tame your Dragon" honest....... well maybe just a wee bit....
Our next adventure was just down the road to a place called the "Self Realisation Centre" basically a large garden and man made lake where people can go and meditate etc. It was originally a movie set where they made silent shows like the Keystone Cops. It is very a peaceful place with some beautiful gardens. You might even see turtles doing yoga.
Now this is a sweet company car
You come onto my place I shoota you
It's easter egg hunt time and here Abel is hunting out where the easter bunny has been with Granma Marta G
And Amapola is finding some inside, tricky bugger that easter bunny hehehe
A drive up to Malibu and onto Point Dume, there are squillions of miles of amazing beaches here, mostly with no one on them during the week, during the weekend though they can fill with thousands of people. Have driven past where they filmed Bay Watch, no over endowed beach girls running into the water though, oh well hehehe. did see a film crew doing an episode of a serial called Scorpion though and scored a big fruit tub thanks to CBS/Paramount Pictures.
Point Dume lookout, the great pacific ocean in the background
The film crew doing Scorpion. You see film crews all over the place when you are driving around here.
The fruit stand, you find these all over the place, the fruit is fresh as and they cut it up for you, nothing beats a tub of fresh fruit with lime juice and chilli powder.
That folks is LA
Heading into LA city to the Natural History Museum and to the butterfly house, then onto a place called Olvera St Mexican market place, The market has been there since the 1800s.
Walking further afield to Central Station which was a beautiful old building and here we have Diney modeling her latest hand bag complete with puppy fashion accessory hehehe, we then went to a food stall eating type of place which had everything imaginable, got a pretty decent coffee there so I was very happy.
Never did work out what an egg slut is though and how about a Boston Butt
And this is the Disney Theartre, bit like our Opera House I suppose
A stroll down the mall in Santa Monica was cool, had a bite to eat and another reasonable coffee but these two kids were the highlight, the younger one was banging a mean tune on the drums with older brother on the guitar, then they swapped over and they were really good.
one of the houses along the Santa Monica foreshore
Down onto the Santa Monica Pier for a wander around
Then after an arduous journey we finally made it to the end of route 66 hahaha no idea where the start is though
Hob nobbing it with the rich and famous for lunch at Casa Del Mar, I think I fitted in quite well
Always have to start a road trip with a full tank of gas, on the road heading north to a place called Ojai (oh hi) great little place, had brunch at a classic diner (crazy and fun) visited an olive farm (yum) and there are lots of orange groves in the area that looked amazing and smelt amazing. Also huge strawberry farms.
This bookshop in Ojai is something to be seen, there are thousands of books in here, you could waste days in here, we spent an hour.
this a tiny portion of the shop
Back in LA and we are heading to Venice Canals and Venice Beach, passed this sign on the way.
This guy made me laugh, he was trying to sell CDs and called out to me " come on santa clause, you gotta buy somting"
You gotta love this, as long as you have a prescription, you can get medical marijuana. So there are lots of little places along Venice beach where you can go for a consultation, fork out $40 and get a prescription, then you go next door and fill your prescription. Sweet mary jane hahaha
Back on the road again, this time we are heading to the Mojave Desert via Yucca Valley. On the way we came across these wind turbines, as it turns out there was around a thousand of these things. An amazing sight.
On the way we stopped at a pioneer village, made for shooting cowboy movies years ago, and now a tourist attraction.
Thought this looked cool
Driving into Yucca Valley
Stopped here for breakfast. It was cool, like something out of the movies, wee juke boxes on the tables and all. And that is a glacier in the background.
The county has changed from coastal tundra to desert now and the diversity of plants is quite stunning
The Yucca Valley has a large off beat art culture and this is the "World Famous Crochet Museum". There are several other artists in this little compound and some of "the art is ....... well....... different" as you will see.
Had some lunch in here, looked really cool. The area we are in is called Joshua Tree and we are heading into the Joshua Tree National Park. (still in Mojave Desert and Yucca Vally)
