Troop 270 has long been a supporter of youth leadership training at the Council level. Since 2011, that training has taken the form of the National Youth Leadership Training program. NYLT is an advanced leadership and team building program. It replaced its predecesor, Junior Leader Training.
The course can be held in a weeklong format or broken up into two weekends. The 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2021 events were held over the course of a week. The 2013 and 2017 courses where split over two weekends.
Twenty members of Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 have completed the National Youth Leadership Training Course to date. Eighteen have gone on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
NYLT 2011 was held at Camp Osborn. The Course DIrector was Steve Scott.

Eli Lapeza was the lone Scout from Troop 270 to attend.
