Star Scout Jacob Frost has been appointed Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) by Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) Simon Baker, with the approval of Scoutmaster John Frost. He will serve at the pleasure of the SPL.
Jacob succeeds Simon Baker, who has been appointed SPL. Jacob has previously served as Troop Quartermaster.

A Troop must meet a series of benchmarks to attain the Gold Award. These include Planning & Budget, Building Scouting, Retention, Webelos-to-Scout Transition, Advancement, Short-Term Camping, Long-Term Camping, Service Projects, Patrol Method, Leadership & Family Engagement, and Trained Leadership.
The Troop must score 1000 points in 8 of 11 categories to earn Gold. There are also Bronze and Silver Awards.

Star Scout Simon Baker has been elected Chief of the Blackwater Chapter of the Withlacoochee Lodge, Order of the Arrow during the Fall Fellowship and Ordeal at Camp Osborn on October 29, 2023.
Simon becomes the fourth Scout from Troop 270 to hold the position following Reid Brinson, Jensen Wade, and Wesley Fletcher.
A chapter represents each district of the council. Each chapter has its own officers and advisers, the officers being elected by the youth Arrowmen OA members within the chapter.
Chapters provide the ability to have meetings closer to home, and meetings and events can be scheduled to coincide with the district events. The chapter is central to providing quality unit visits for camping promotion, and unit elections.
Members of Troop 270 visited the Cordelia Masonic Lodge on Thursday, October 17 and were treated to a hamburger supper. Other items on the menu were baked beans, roasted potatoes, cake and tea.
Following the meal, the Scouts and Scouters listened to a presentation on the relationship between the Free Masons and the Boy Scouts of America by Mason and Troop 210 Scoutmaster Bruce Guest from Leesburg.
Scouts Jensen Wade and Landon Atkins were joined by Scouters Brady Atkins, Britt Brinson, and David Wade.
Troop 270 would like to thank the Cordelia Masonic Lodge for the great meal and fine evening.
Congratulations to Life Scout Wesley Fletcher on completion of his Eagle Scout Service Project, a flag drop box.
The flag drop box will be located at the Cordele Boy Scout Hut, 1101 South 3rd Street. Anyone with an old, tattered, or dirty flag that needs to be properly retired may leave the flag in the box.
Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 holds two flag retirement ceremonies per year, at Memorial Day and Veterans Day. This year's Veterans Day Flag Retirement Service will be held on Monday, November 13.

Troop 270 was asked to direct vehicle parking at the Cordele Lions Club Fairgrounds during the Hundred Mile Yard Sale on Saturday, October 14.
Though it was a last-minute request, the Troop did what it could to help out.
Scout Jensen Wade and Scouters David Wade and Britt Brinson spent over two hours helping visitors find parking spaces and set the tone for the rest of the day.
Wesley F. has begun his second stint at Senior Patrol Leader. His first term was from October 2019 until October 2020.
Wesley was in the position of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader until Laiton Sharp, the previous SPL, aged out of the position.
Wesley currently holds the rank of Life Scout. He is very close to earning his Eagle Scout rank.
Troop 270 Assistant Scoutmaster Britt Brinson spent the month of June serving as Camp Commissioner at Camp Sidney Dew above Rome, Georgia.
In that position, he served as liaison between the Camp Director and the Scoutmasters for the attending Troops. He also was responsible for inspecting each of the campsites on the property a couple of times a week.

Troop 270 Scoutmaster John Frost led the South Georgia Contingent to the 2023 National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve near Glen Jean, West Virginia.
The 21st National Scout Jamboree was held from July 19-28. The event has been held at the Summit since 2013.
31 youth and adults made up the South Georgia Council contingent.
Assistant Scoutmaster Britt Brinson attended the BSA National Camping School at Camp Bert Adams in Newton County the week of May 13-19.
Brinson spent the week in the Camp Director's Section training in preparation for serving as Camp Commissioner at Camp Sidney Dew in Floyd County, north of Rome.
The Camp Director's Certification is good for five years.
State Senator Carden Summers invited the guys onto the Senate floor for a picture with Lt. Governor Burt Jones during Scout Day at the Capitol.
Local Scouts making the trip were Simon Baker, Jacob Frost, Cody Ngo, Laieton Sharp, Jensen Wade, and Cody Wooldridge. They were supported by adult Scouters Britt Brinson and David Wade.
There were over 600 Scouts and Scouters at the event, from all over the State of Georgia.
Laieton Sharp, son of Vonda and Jimmy Sharp of Vienna, has become the 32nd Eagle Scout in Troop 270 and the 72nd Eagle Scout in the history of Scouting in Crisp County.
Laieton joined the Troop on March 1, 2016. He has been involved in Scouting since he was six years old, when he joined a Cub Scout Pack in Adel, GA.
Troop 270 has earned the Journey to Excellence Gold Award for the tenth year in a row. Journey to Excellence program began in 2013.
A Troop must meet a series of benchmarks to attain the Gold Award. These include Planning & Budget, Building Scouting, Retention, Webelos-to-Scout Transition, Advancement, Short-Term Camping, Long-Term Camping, Service Projects, Patrol Method, Leadership & Family Engagement, and Trained Leadership.
The Troop must score 1000 points in 8 of 11 categories to earn Gold. There are also Bronze and Silver Awards.
We're finally making progress on Troop 270's cooker again. Jake Kelley, ASM David Wade's son-in-law, is graciously loaning his welding talents to the project, installing the guides for the cooking racks.
Assisting with the project today are Scout Jensen Wade and Scouters David Wade, John Frost, and Britt Brinson.
The Troop's Annual "Send My Butt To Camp" Boston Butt Sale is coming up at the end of May.
Cordele First United Methodist Church held its annual Scout Sunday service on February 12, 2023 and the boys of Troop 270 led several parts of the service.
Senior Patrol Leader Laieton Sharp called for the congregation to rise for the presentation of the colors, asked them to join in the Pledge of Allegiance, then led the Troop in the Scout Oath and Law, then the Outdoor Code.
Wesley Fletcher and Korey Watts carried the colors. Jacob Frost and Landon Atkins rounded out the color guard. Benjamin Nipper led the Lord's Prayer. Cav Vaughn led the other participants to their seats.
Jake Atkins and Guage Burke, Cub Scouts from Pack 270 also participated. They were joined by adult Scouters Brady Atkins, Britt Brinson, John Burke, Terry Fennel, Wesley Fletcher, and Gerry Nipper.
Winter Court of Honor traditionally sees the fewest awards of the year, however, the 2023 version still had its own highlights.
The biggest part of the night was Benjamin Nipper receiving his Life Scout award.
Three other Scouts each received one of their Eagle-Required merit badges. Jensen Wade received his Citizenship in the Nation merit badge. Korey Watts has earned his Cooking merit badge. Wesley Fletcher received his Emergency Preparedness merit badge.
All youth and adult members received their 2022 Journey to Excellence Gold Award patch.
While Laieton Sharp was elected Senior Patrol Leader back in November, the other leadership positions were not filled until January 30 2023.
Troop 270 has a new Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and two new Patrol Leaders. Wesley F. was appointed ASPL while Benjamin N. was elected leader for the Knight Patrol and selected Jensen W. to be his Assistant Patrol Leader. Landon A. was elected leader of the Scorpion Patrol and selected Simon Baker to serve as his APL.
Scoutmaster John Frost and Assistant Scoutmaster Britt Brinson spent some time today measuring the Troop cooker for the angle iron and extended metal needed to finish the project. John also did some grinding where the firebox will attach to the 1000 gallon cylinder (cooker).
Then they went over to the Hut to do some tidy up work on the front doors and hang some additional artifacts on the wall over the fireplace.
The Summer Camp commerative plaques were also rearranged. They list the names of the boys and adults who attended camp for each from 2013-2023. The plan is to try to identify and remember the Scouts who attended camp each year since the founding of the Troop in 1990.
Laieton Sharp was honored by the Withlacoochee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow for his service as Vice Chief for Administration during 2022.
Laieton has been a member of Troop 270 for seven years and is the son of Vonda and Jimmy Sharp.
Life Scout Laieton Sharp has been elected Senior Patrol Leader for Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270. He has been a member of the Troop seven years and has previously served as Troop Librarian and Chaplain's Aid.
Laieton is the son of Vonda and Jimmy Sharp.
Troop 270's Sum.mer Quarter Court of Honor was held at the Cordele First United Methodist Church on August 2, 2022.
Scouts Simon Baker, Laieton Sharp, Jensen Wade, Korey Watts, and Cody Wooldridge were on hand to receive awards earned at Summer Camp.
The Cordele Boy Scout Hut, built in 1940, has been undergoing renovation for over two years now. A major step in completion of the project took place on July 3, 2022.
The siding to the right of the front doorway was removed and replaced, along with the installation of new front doors.
Wood for the project was donated by Griffin Lumber Company. Numerous adults and youth have participated in the project.
The next steps are to paint the exterior and straighten up the inside.

BSA Territory 14 has announced toat Eli Lapeza has been selected as the 2022-2023 Territory 14 Venturing Officers' Association President. His term begins June 1, 2022.
Eli is from Crew 749 in the Atlanta Area Council and has been active in Venturing since he became an Eagle Scout with Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 in 2018. Eli is a rising sophomore at the Oxford College of Emory University where he is studying Biology and Philosophy, while on a dual degree program with the Georgia Institute of Technology for a degree in Biomedical Engineering.
Has most recently served as the Territory 14 Task Force Chair. Formerly, Eli has served as the Southern Region Area 9 Venturing Officers' Association Vice President of Administration, Southern Region Section 9 Secretary within the Order of the Arrow, and as Withlacoochee Lodge Chief. Eli has earned the Area Venturing Leadership Award.
Eli hopes to promote the Venturing program to smaller councils in Territory 14, build stronger bonds with all of the councils within the Territory, and promote an open and approachable relationship that councils can depend on.

Father Jason Patrick Adams, one of the first five Eagle Scouts in Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 has been honored by the National Catholic Scouting Conference.
Father Adams wrote on his Facebook page, "As I prepare to travel from this National Catholic Scouting Conference, I want to share two highlights that I pray I can live up too and serve others faithfully through the scouting method. One, was on the feast day of scoutings patron Saint, I was presented the Silver St George award for service to scouting on a national level. Also, I was named the new Religious Emblems Advisor. Please pray i will faithfully serve well in this new role promoting scoutings emblem program as a resource to minister to our young people."

HISTORIC FLAGS RETURN TO THE HUT
Two historic flags from Cordele Boy Scout Troops 40 and 43 were donated to Troop 270 when Rebecca Haley Moody gave a box of artifacts to Scout Mom Melanie Nipper.
Troop 40 was originally formed as Troop 1 sometime before 1913.
The late Dr. Chester Lapeza had a vision that the flags be framed and hung over the doors, suspended from the ceiling of the Cordele Boy Scout Hut.
The Cordele Boy Scout Hut was built in 1940.
The 3'x5' cotton flags likely date from the 1940s or 1950s.

Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 held its Winter 2022 Court of Honor at Cordele First United Methodist Church on Monday, January 31.
Ten boys were present to receive awards. Cav Vaughn received his Scout rank award.
The World Conservation award was presented to Jensen Wade, Korey Watts, and Jackson Wade.
Korey also received his Citizenship in the Nation merit Badge.
Several boys received their certificates of membership in the Polar Bear Club, earned when they camp in sub-freezing weather.
The Journey to Excellence Gold Award patches were also distributed to those who were present.
Eagle Scout Eli Lapeza was presented with the Order of the Arrow Founders Award at the annual banquet of the Withlacoochee Lodge.
Introduced at the 1981 National Order of the Arrow Conference, the Founder's Award recognizes Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge. The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates that he or she personifies the spirit of selfless service, as advocated by founder E. Urner Goodman and cofounder Carroll A. Edson.
The recognition came at the end of Eli's tenure as Lodge Chief. Eli served two terms in that position in addition to serving as a Southern Region Area 9 Vice Chief.
Life Scout Laieton Sharp has been elected Vice Chief for Administration in the Withlacoochee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.
Laieton began his quest into Lodge leadership as an Elangomat during OA Ordeals.
Life Scout Wesley Fletcher becomes the latest member of Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 to be elected Chief of the Blackwater Chapter of the Withlacoochee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. Blackwater is one of the three chapters of the Lodge, which correspond to the three districts of the South Georgia Council.
He follows Jensen Wade, who followed Reid Brinson.
Scoutmaster John Frost of Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 has received the Vigil Honor through the Withlacoochee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.
The Vigil Honor is the highest award that can be bestowed by an OA Lodge. Frost completed his vigil along with a couple of Scouts from other Troops the night and early morning of December 17-18, 2021 at Camp Osborn in Worth County.
Members of Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 assisted in a Thanksgiving food distribution event sponsored by the Concerned Citizens That Care. The event was held at the Cordele Lions Club Fairground on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Two hundred turkeys, bags of groceries, and greens were distributed.
Scouts who participated were Simon Baker, Andrew Bedore, John Bedore, Matthew Bedore, Benjamin Nipper, Cav Vaughn, Jensen Wade and Landan Woodard. Adult leaders who took part were Scoutmaster John Frost and Assistant Scoutmasters Britt Brinson and David Wade.

Benjamin Nipper, Cav Vaughn, JJ Morris, Jacob Frost, Korey Watts, Landon Atkins, Simon Baker, and Wesley Fletcher received their Aviation merit badges. Cav also received his Totin' Chip emblem.
Jensen W has been elected Senior Patrol Leader for Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 for 2021-22.
The election was heldl before the Fall Court of Honor on October 25, 2021. Jensen's term is for one year. He succeeded Korey Watts.
Laieton S. has been elected Patrol Leader for the Knight Patrol.
Landan W. has been elected Patrol Leader for the Pack Mule Patrol.
Cav V. has been electedl Patrol Leader for the Scorpion Patrol.
First Class Scout Landan W was elected to the Order of the Arrow by the members of the Troop at the Troop meeting on September 27.
He was called out at the Camporee on October 9.
He completed his Ordeal on October 6, 2021. Congratulation Landan.
Five Scouts from Cordele Boy Scout Troop 270 participated in the National Youth Leadership Training Course conducted by the South Georgia Council on May 30 thru June 5, 2021.
Troop 270 Scoutmaster John Frost was the Scoutmaster for NYLT 2021. ASM Britt Brinson was Assistant Scoutmaster for Program, while ASM Eli Lapeza was the Senior Patrol Leader.

Our Scouts sold a record 384 Boston Butts during our annual sale. Nine cookers smoked the meat in two shifts over 26 hours May 27-28, 2021.
Troop 270 Scoutmaster John Frost was awarded the Silver Beaver on February 8, 2020. This is the highest award given by the local Council to a volunteer.
Assistant Scoutmasters David Wade and Jody Fletcher earned their Wood Badge beads. Both men were part of the South Georgia Council's Wood Badge Course S9-98-19. They were beaded on October 26, 2020.
Postponed because of Covid-19, Troop 270's "Send My Butt To Camp" Boston Butt sale culminated in the Butt cooking being held in December. The temperature got down to a balmy 28 degrees that Thursday night.
Assistant Scoutmasters David and Bobby Wade completed Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills at Camp Osborn on November 21, 2020.
Position-Specific training and IOLS are required for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered Trained.
Members of Troop 270 helped the Cordele Lions Club distribute almost 180 turkeys, bags of groceries, and collards to needy folks from Crisp, Dooly, and Macon Counties on the morning of November 25, 2020.
