ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

Year 9 Bridging Cycle 3.docx

The mastery statements shown on this document will show you what you need to do in order to meet your age related expectations for this cycle of work.

You need to produce a project that shows you can use all of the knowledge and skills gained during this cycle.

PROJECT:

Youth Centre Design

You have been campaigning for a local Youth Centre and the government has finally awarded you £2 million to create a new space for children under the age of 18 to hang out. The local council has a unit on an industrial estate that they have designated for the centre. The £2 million is to fully kit out the space and get the club through it's first month of opening.

You will need to:

  • Design the space - what will appeal to most children in the area?
  • Research costs for your design
  • Create a spreadsheet to track your budget
  • Ensure that your budget balances at the end of the investigation (all £2 million must be spent or the government will take the difference back)
  • Develop a secure entry system to ensure that only registered children are given access to the facilities

What should be on the spreadsheet?

  • Income (£2m)
  • Outgoings (everything you need to buy to finish the set up)
  • Balance (Income - Outgoings)
  • A pie chart to show distribution of funds

What will the secure entry system need to do?

  • Store the usernames and passwords of at least 10 initial registered youths
  • Display a welcome screen to the user upon entry to the facilities
  • Display the rules of the youth centre that must be agreed before proceeding
  • Ask for the username, check it's on the system
  • Ask for the password, check it matches the one on the system
  • Grant or deny access

Evidence Required for Assessment

  • A finished budget spreadsheet printed landscape and fitted to 1 page
  • The pie chart showing distribution of funds (the outgoings)
  • An evaluation of your spreadsheet stating how effective you think it is
  • A completed computational thinking problem solver for the entry system
  • A print out of your code, with annotations

NOTE: Look carefully at the assessment criteria for this project to make sure that you demonstrate your skills in all areas.

MARKING:

Self-marking:

Use the mastery statements at the top of this page to self mark your work.

Teacher marking:

Your teacher will ask for your evidence by a set deadline. It will then be marked against the criteria above.
