End of Cycle Key Assessment Task

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Year 7 Cycle 2.docx

The mastery statements shown on this document will show you what you need to do in order to meet your age related expectations for this cycle of work.

You need to produce a project that shows you can use all of the knowledge and skills gained during this cycle.

PROJECT

Create an application to guide you around Alton Towers:

You are visiting Alton Towers with a group of friends and you want to make sure that you visit all of the best rides. Your project is to create an app that will successfully guide you to the rides in the fastest order. You will need to think about:

  • The rides that you would like to go on
  • Rides with high queue times
  • Distance between rides (foot travel time)

Additionally, the app will require a password. This password will need to be written in binary numbers to help keep it secret.

Supporting Documents:

The Alton Towers map can be found here: https://www.altontowers.com/media/4135/2017-map.pdf

Download a Computational Thinking Problem Solver sheet and print a copy. You will need this to complete your project.

Evidence required for assessment:

  • A completed Computational Thinking Problem Solver
  • A working application (in Scratch) OR a design version made in PowerPoint
  • A document showing the password in binary and in decimal

Additional Optional Task

  • Write an evaluation of your approach stating why you didn't use an alternative algorithm for your solution.

MARKING

Self-marking:

Use the mastery statements at the top of this page to self mark your work.

Teacher marking:

Your teacher will ask for your evidence by a set deadline. It will then be marked against the criteria above.
