A: Is the opening already cut?
A: An egress window simply means a window that opens so in case of a fire you can escape (egress) through it. An egress window has to be at least a specific size. See below. As long as we have the right size opening, our normal double hung window will work. Usually when a customer is interested in an egress window, they want to cut in an opening. We do not want to do that. However, we can replace a window with excess egress.
Minimum width of opening: 20 in.
Minimum height of opening: 24 in.
Minimum net clear opening: 5.7 sq. ft (5.0 sq. ft. for ground floor)
Maximum sill height above floor: 44 in.
