Details of the social gathering at Nagoya University in September (during MSJ Autumn Meeting) have been posted on the "Schedule." There is also a registration form.
Catch-all means something that holds or includes a wide variety of things. This word captures the main goals of our colloquium.
The first goal is to “catch” different fields of mathematics; the colloquium is devoted to offering broad overview talks for a general mathematical audience, rather than technical talks for specialists.
The second goal of our colloquium is to “catch” diverse groups of people doing mathematics and promote diversity in the math community in Japan. Following each colloquium talk, we will have a breakout room session focusing on various topics concerning diversity issues where participants exchange their ideas.
Finally, the colloquium also aims to provide a networking opportunity for people working in different areas and universities/institutions in Japan and elsewhere through monthly meetings.
この談話会は、数学に関わるあれやこれやについて、おいでいただいた皆さんとお話しすることを目的としています。
この談話会では、数学の様々な分野の専門家に、最先端のテーマについて非専門家向けに解説する講演をしていただき、分野をこえた学術的交流の推進を目指します。
また、この談話会では、多様性を備えた包摂的な数学コミュニティの形成を促すことも目指しています。講演者には、ご専門の話だけではなく、ご自身の数学者としての軌跡についてもお話しいただきます。その内容をもとに小グループに分かれての交流や情報交換を行います。
この談話会が、異なる分野や大学・多様な環境で研究している方々にとっての、情報共有や意見交換のできる井戸端会議の場となれば幸いです。

Originally from the Czech Republic, I have been living and working in Japan for about 20 years, starting at Kanazawa University, then moving to Kyoto University and since 2023 to Tokyo Metropolitan University. My field of interest is applied mathematics, especially topics related to variational problems and nonlinear PDEs. I also like to do mathematical modeling and numerical simulations. The most satisfying moment in my research comes when a new mathematical idea succeeds in helping understand a real-world problem.
チェコ出身で,20年ほど前から日本に住んで,仕事してきました.はじめは金沢大学,その後,京都大学,そして2023年より東京都立大学に移りました.専門分野は応用数学で,変分問題や非線型偏微分方程式に関係する問題に興味を持っています.数理モデリングと数値計算も好きです.研究で最も満足する瞬間が訪れるのは,新しい数学を通して実際世界の問題を理解・解決できたときです.
Before joining Tohoku University as an assistant professor, I worked in France, Taiwan and the US in various industries, including textiles. Interested in the relationships between mathematics, materials science and design, my research topic is related to knot theory and its interdisciplinary applications. I also enjoy outdoor sports and nature.

I am a Postdoc at Osaka University. Before this position, I was a Postdoc at Mitsubishi Electric(@ Amagasaki, Hyogo). I am from Hokkaido and spent my entire student years in Tokyo. My research interests are differential geometry and geometric analysis. In particular, I am focusing on the scalar curvatures and Ricci flows. I like all sports.

Hiroyuki Ochiai
I’m from Saitama Prefecture, which is now well-known thanks to the movie Fly Me to the Saitama. I have a strong interest in equations and shapes, including data and graphs. I welcome questions about unknown or undecided functions, series, and numbers.
埼玉県川越市出身。代数解析を専門とし、特に、式と形に興味を持っています。
概均質ベクトル空間、超幾何関数、多重ゼータ、D加群、CG、リー群の表現論、不変式などからそういった話題を抜き出して研究してきました。見かけたことのない関数や式やグラフに関する質問を歓迎しています。
趣味は刊行前の本の原稿を読むことです。
Yutaka Terasawa
I was born in Yawata city in Kyoto prefecture. I lived in Kyoto until High School, in Tokyo from Bachelor to Master and in Sapporo at Doctor. I studied Real Variable Methods of Harmonic Analysis at Master and Partial Differential Equations, in particular, Fundamental Equations of Fluid Mechanics, at Doctor. For this reason, I have specialized in these fields and have participated in conferences in these fields up to now.
I have now been in Nagoya University as an Associate Professor for 10 years or so. I sometimes go to Germany for a joint work. Although I believe that the interaction of the fields of harmonic analysis and partial differential equations produce good mathematics, I feel that I myself am before achieving the goal. I am often participating in this "Oide Math" Seminar to broaden my knowledge of mathematics a little further if any. I am also getting stimulus from Part two of the Seminar and it makes me think about various things. It would make me happy if I could contribute to the seminar even if a little as an organizer.
My hobbies are listening to classical music, playing Japanese chess, studying various languages and etc., although I am not good at them.
生まれは、京都府八幡市になります。高校までは、京都で過ごし、学部と修士課程までは東京、博士課程は札幌で過ごしました。修士課程の折は、実解析的な調和解析を研究し、博士課程の折は、偏微分方程式、特に流体力学の基礎方程式を研究しておりました。その関係で、現在まで両分野を専門とし、同分野の研究集会に参加して参りました。
名古屋大学に准教授として赴任してからは、10年ほど時間が経ちます。ドイツには、時々共同研究のために出かけております。調和解析と非線形微分方程式の分野の交流により、良い数学が生み出されると信じておりますが、自らは志半ばだと感じております。数学に対する知見を少しでも広げるため、本セミナーにはよく参加させていただいております。第二部の議論からも、いろいろと刺激をいただいており、考えさせられることが多くあります。このたび、運営に加わらせていただきますが、少しでもお役に立てましたら、幸いに存じます。
趣味は、下手の横好きですが、クラシック音楽鑑賞、将棋対局、語学学習などです。
Tomohide Terasoma
My name is Tomohide Terasoma. I am one of organizer of this Seminar from the last October.
I was very much interested in Science and Mathematics from childhood. It was my great pleasure to understand great mathematical theories one by one in the process of growing up.
I am studying algebraic geometry and number theory, especially multiple zeta values, special function such as hypergeometric functions. Now I am a stranger for many fields of mathematics, that means there are still many rooms for encountering many interesting subjects.
If I can help researchers who have some difficulties, but have a will for continuing to study, it will be my great pleasure. By attending recent meetings, I noticed that there are many kinds of difficulties, which I have not imagined. I expect to encounter those people, and enjoy talking.
24年の10月から世話役をしております寺杣です。小学生、中学生のころから科学、数学が面白くて、子供のころにはわからなかったことが、だんだんわかってくることがうれしく感じてきました。代数幾何と整数論を専攻していて、いまこの瞬間に興味があるのは、多重ゼータ値と超幾何関数などの特殊函数です。ほかの分野はわからないことだらけですが、わからないことがたくさんあるということは、これからわかっていく楽しみがたくさん残っているということでしょう。
様々な困難をかかえつつ、それでも数学の研究が楽しくて続けている人たちの応援を微力ですができればと思います。人の話を聞いてみてはじめてわかること、聞いてみないとわからないことなど、いろいろです。またそれでも力強く数学の研究を続けている人たちに会えるのが楽しみです。
Tomoko Takemura
I was born in Kaho-gun (now Iizuka City), Fukuoka Prefecture. After entering an integrated junior and senior high school, which was an hour and a half away from home, I spent a chaotic period of time worrying about my career path. I did not like studying at school, but I loved thinking about arithmetic and mathematical problems. When I was a gap year student preparing for collage, I learned of the existence of the mathematics department and entered it. Since then, I have been fascinated by the world of mathematics.
My field of interest is stochastic process theory. I am particularly interested in limit theorems, and my research focuses on problems that deal with phenomena in which particles in continuous motion jump or disappear in the limit. In my personal life, I am a mother of two active boys.
福岡県嘉穂郡(現:飯塚市)出身.片道1時間半かかる中高一貫の学校に進学後,自分の進路に悩み混沌とした時期を過ごしました.学校の勉強は好きではありませんでしたが,算数や数学の問題を考えることが好きでした.浪人生時代に数学科の存在を知り,数学科に進学.その後今に至るまで,数学の世界に魅了されています.
専門は,確率過程論.特に極限定理に興味があり,連続的に運動する粒子が極限ではジャンプや消滅が起こるような現象に対応する問題を中心に研究をしています.私生活では,元気な二人の男の子のお母さんをしています.

I graduated from the Department of Mathematics, School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, Waseda University, and is currently a master's student in the Department of Mathematics, Kyoto University. I am interested in algebraic geometry. My hobbies are sf and Shogi.
早稲田大学基幹理工学部数学科を卒業し、現在は、京都大学数学教室で修士課程に所属している。代数幾何学に興味がある。趣味はsfと将棋。
田中宜子 (Tanaka, Noriko)
The colloquium will be held about once a month. It will be held online for the time being.
談話会は月1回を予定しています。当面は、オンラインで開催します。
Each event will consist of a one-hour talk on mathematics followed by a one-hour exchange session.
各談話会は、数学の部(60分)と交流の部(60分)の2部からなります。
In the mathematics part, we will hear an exciting overview talk for a general mathematical audience.
数学の部は、非専門家を対象とした数学の講演です。
In the exchange session, we will hear about the speaker's personal journey as a mathematician. You can take inspiration from the talk and exchange ideas with other participants in a small group.
交流の部は、講演者の数学者としての軌跡を語っていただいた後に、少人数に分かれて、情報交換をします。
After the sessions are over, there will be a tea time for a maximum of one hour where participants can chat freely.
2部終了後に、歓談のため最長1時間でお茶の時間を設けます。(お茶はご自身でご用意ください。)

Former organizer Asuka Takatsu wrote a forward essay for Kagaku (Science) published by Iwanami Shoten, Publishers. The link above contains the original essay in Japanese and the following is the English translation by the author herself:
Diversity. I first heard about it in the last 10 years. I wondered what it was. One mathematician mistook it for the mathematical term divergence. Nowadays, I often hear it in the news, but I feel that I rarely come across its exact definition. I am ashamed to say that I cannot give a precise definition either (although I do know what divergence is).
What is diversity? The first time I became aware of it was when I was asked by Xiaodan Zhou in the spring of 2021 and started to co-organize the Catch-all Math Colloquium of Japan. Zhou, who co-organized a meeting in cooperation with the Association for Women in Mathematics in the U.S., asked me the situation of Japan. I replied that the Mathematical Society of Japan has a committee to promote gender equality but there are not many events that focus on horizontal connections. Then we decided to create our own connections! We first approached Makiko Sasada and decided that the colloquium is related to DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion), then reached Benoît Collins and Tetsuji Taniguchi. Finally, we held our first colloquium in October 2021. One goal of the colloquium is "to create a diverse and inclusive mathematical community". However, we thought that if we decided on the DEI without any differences, we would lose diversity and inclusiveness, so we just confirmed the thoughts of each of the five organizers based on respect for each other. To prevent echo chambers, we decided that organisers would be replaced after a few terms. I served the first term, and now it is the third term organized by Shihoko Ishii, Shingo Saito, Karel Svadlenka, Shota Hamanaka, and Sonia Mahmoudi and Reiko Miyaoka. In addition to the organizers, there are assistants of the colloquium, Junichiro Matsuda and Akihiro Miyagawa for the first and second terms, and Yuta Sasahara and Kyota Saneshige for this third term.
As an organizer, I recognized and changed my bias, learned things that I was not aware of due to my narrow perspective, and updated the definition of DEI in my own way. However, the fundamental attitude is not changed: "Consideration is important". When being considerate, think about the other person and do not impose own feelings. On the other hand, one of the biggest changes was that I noticed that the individual consideration and the social right are different and then I began to realize that I am now an adult. Since I had been confusing consideration and right, and was only concerned about my own feelings, I was struck by Zhou's attitude that it is not only to be good by herself, but also try to improve those around her. At the same time, I was ashamed of how childish I have been. For me, being an adult is to have both the right and the duty to change the world. I find myself in the future I dreamed of as a child. I think that an adult not only dreams, but also fulfils dreams and passes dreams on to children. The experience of organising the colloquium has brought me the change from a DEI as a child to a DEI as an adult.
