1) Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
2) Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
6) Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
On April 19th 2023, I participated in the 2023 National/Regional World Economics Cup. As an IB Economics student, I thought it would be a great opportunity to test and develop my Economics level. A total of 18 students joined this world cup and we were divided into 3 teams. To prepare fo the test, I reviewed the topics we learned in class and tried solving the practice questions during April break. The participants also had several meetings and time to take mock exams together. Because we are in year 1 IB Economics class and went through half of the whole IB Economics contents, we didn't cover all the topics that are coming out in the competition. Therefore, I decided to challenge myself by trying to understand the new topics.
Through the reviewing and mock exams, I could further improve my skills in comprehending Economics knowledge in a scenario or case study including global issues and statistics. On the actual test day, all participants gathered in class and completed the online exam. Fortunately, our team scored well and the average was top 20~40% so we got the Bronze certificate. Also, I got an individual certificate, the Distinction award. I was very glad to receive the awards and I realized that I gained knowledge on various Economics topics in a year. Sadly, our team couldn't get into the second round. However, I think it was a great experience to join the World Economics Cup and further develop my Economics skills with many classmates in IB Economics Year 1 class.
