On November 8th, the International Day 2022 was held. With the theme of 'Global Rejuvenation', Wells community gathered and celebrated the diversity of the student, teacher, and staff, and learned about various cultures around the world as well. The celebration had a goal of highlighting the rejuvenation of life and culture around the world in a post-pandemic world. The Wells community came up with activities and booths according to the question of how we celebrate the 'rejuvenation' around the world.
The Korean Club chose to participate in this event and share the culture of Korea. Following the tradition of Korean club, we decided to do K-Pop dance performances and Korean Food booth. We thought that the dance performances would connect to the theme of Global Rejuvenation from celebrating the comeback of K-Pop. Due to the breakdown of Covid-19, all the concerts and music shows were held without audience. Many K-Pop fans were waiting for the date to meet their favorite K-Pop idols face-to-face and feel the enthusiasm of cheering them and singing aloud their songs. In May 2022, the new laws of the Covid-19 in Korea finally allowed the audience to attend the music shows. People started calling this as the 'Revival of K-Pop' and it shows the rejuvenation of K-Pop.
The songs for the performances were voted by every members in the club. The K-Pop songs decided were Fearless- Lesserafim, Hype Boy- New Jeans, New things- Zico, and Pink Venom- Blackpink. I performed 2 songs among the 4 songs, Fearless and Pink Venom. The members who chose to dance began practicing from October and met once or twice every week at school to match the dance movements. Because I was not exercising often due to not taking PE and having many school works, practicing for the dance performance was helpful for me to be active and to maintain my physical health. Also, I had to constantly check the event details and the practice progress as a leader of Korean club. I checked the dates and times the members are available for practices and allocate time accordingly to gather people in groups. Also, I scheduled rehearsals on the days when majority of members are available and practiced dances on the stage. From this, I learned how to initiate and follow the plan of the CAS experience.
All members tried hard to memorize the dance movements and came to practices regularly. Therefore, the performance on the International Day went great without major mistakes! Because many members participated in the dance, the dance looked nice using full stage. I was a bit nervous performing on the stage but it was very exciting. I'm thankful for the all the members who tried their best and I hope we can do K-Pop dance performances again and continue spreading the significance of Korean culture!
