Genus Amara

All Amara species are sexually dimorphic, males with modified protarsi, females' normal; several species have females that look very different from the males, and cannot always be identified to species based solely on physical examination if not also found with a female. For cases like this, species pages will have a description of the male for the species, as well as a description for the female of the species.

**All species marked with two asterisks (**) are species which have representative specimens in our collections, and will be filled out soon.
