Head smallish, triangular; surface of the head smooth, with two small, faint dimples on the frons, which do not continue onto the clypeus. Clypeus smooth, with two setigerous pits: one on either dorsal front angle. Labrum short, rectangular; mandibles short, strongly curved; the tips of the mandibles are often dark reddish to black. Palpi dark, with pale tips. Eyes not reduced in size, but are close to the head, not strongly bulging. Two supraorbital setae over each eye. Pronotum domed, flattish; front margin curved inwards weakly; front angles acute, bent forward; lateral margins rounded, sloping forward; hind angles squared; pronotal margins fully beaded. Pronotal disk mostly smooth; median line strong; two weak, slender dimples may be seen on either side of the lower median. The pronotal base is as broad as the elytral base. Scutellum rather large: exposed; parascutellar pores absent. 8 well-defined striae per elytron, outer striae often shallow, intervals flat. Laterobasal ridge entire. Humeral shoulders obtuse, though typically obscured by the base of the pronotal disk. Lateral margins mostly straight, weakly rounded; apices sinuate. Femora dark, tibiae dark, often reddish.
