Information: similar species: A.sinuosa, A.harpalina, A.idahoana, A.rubrica (does not occur in the far West), A.apachensis, A.pseudobrunnea (can be found in Idaho, but otherwise does not occur in the far West). Often found in or around sand/gravel pits, fields, orchards, forest edges/clearings, meadows, usually on dry sandy soils with sparse vegetation(ref.)
Description: body: elongate-ovate, somewhat slender; moderately convex. Dorsal and ventral colouration should be very similar; glossy dark reddish-orange with yellow legs. Head small, somewhat triangular; eyes moderate in size, strongly bulging laterally; two supraorbital setae over each eye. The surface of the head should be smooth. Clypeus smooth, with two seta-bearing fovea, one on each of the two lateral margins. Labrum rectangular, the front margin curved inward. Labrum and mandibles opaque orange, mandibles with dark tips. Palpi pale yellow. Antennae yellow to orange, antennal pubescence begins on the second antennomere following the pedicel (segment 4). Pronotum domed, front angles obtuse; lateral margins sloped forward; hind angles squared; basal margin straight. Lateral margins beaded, front and basal margins beaded, but end abruptly just before the median. Median line weak, partially vanished; the dorsal surface of the basal margin punctate except on the lower median bulge. The rest of the disk is smooth, glossy. 7-8 well-defined, pitted striae per elytron, intervals flattish. No elytral pubescence. Scutellum exposed. Humeral shoulders obtuse, laterobasal ridges entire, straight. No parascutellar pores. Apices very weakly sinuate, nearly rounded.
