Amara aurata
Size: 6.8-8.8mm
Seasonality: March-October
Distribution; BC-CAN to BC-MX, to MT-NV; Mexico
Information: n/a
Description: body: small; elongate-ovate, slender. Dorsal colouration variants: dark, oily bronze, nearly black; shiny, metallic green-bronze; glossy black. Head small; face short; mandibles short, curved close to the head, not sharp: partially obscured by the labrum. Palpi dark, with pale tips. The clypeus should have two seta-bearing fovea, on either lateral margin. Surface of the head smooth, with two minor dimples on the frons, which do not continue onto the clypeus. Eyes not reduced, bulging laterally; two supraorbital setae may be found over each eye. The antennae should only be able to span as long as the distance between the front of the eye and the hind pronotal angle of the same side of the body. Antennal segments 4-11 should be much darker than the first three segments (starting from the scapus). Antennal pubescence begins on the second half of the first antennomere following the pedicel (segment #3). Pronotum domed; front angles obtuse, weakly bent towards the head; front margin very weakly curved inwardly to the pronotal disk; lateral margins rounded, sloped toward the head; hind angles nearly, or, squared; basal margin weakly sinuous. Lateral margins beaded-beading continues onto the basal margin, ending abruptly before the median. Four seta-bearing fovea should be found on the pronotal lateral margins: two on either side: one on the disk, touching the lateral bead before the front angle; the other is found within the dorsal inner angle of the hind angles. Median line weak, often nearly vanished; dorsally, the basal margin should be dotted with micropunctures; on either side of the lower median bulge is a short, slender depression; the rest of the pronotal disk is smooth. Elytra partial-ovate, elongate; 7-8 well-defined striae per elytron, intervals flat; parascutellar pores very small; all striae are typically complete to the apices. No discal setae/pubescence, only typical lateral setae. Humeral angles obtuse, nearly squared; laterobasal ridge entire, not sinuous; apices somewhat pointed, very slightly sinuous. Ventral colouration matte to semi-matte version of the dorsal colouration. Legs reddish-brown to orange-brown.
