This painting was an observation from live model. This was a two hour class including set up and clean up requiring us to move quickly. When choosing the composition and painting style I wanted to embody, I thought of the baroque period. Specifically “the Birth of Venus” by Alexandre Cabanel. Before any painting I created a gesture sketch with yellow paint capturing the movement and style of the model and blocking out the largest shadows. I wanted the model to stand out and showcase the natural beauty and complexity of the human anatomy. To accomplish this I used deep blue and flesh tones for a subtle complementary color scheme. Overall I feel I accomplished a good composition with a fitting ambiance to my theme.
